Best shampoo and conditioner for knotty hair

Dd is 11 and has very long wavy hair and lots of it, the strands aren't thick but her hair is very thick because of the voulme.

She wants to keep it long for now, she tries her best with brushing and I help but she gets very headsore and usually a bit matted underneath. It is mostly manageable if we brush twice a day, sleep in plaits and tie it back during the day. It doesn't feel nice any more though (used to feel silky) and I wonder if we need to change shampoo and conditioner to a better quality one which will hopefully help with the condition of it and also the tangling. Has anyone got any recommendations? Currently use (and have done for ages) Alberto balsam Tea tree shampoo and L'Oréal Hair Mask conditioner in a tub. I think maybe we need to upgrade. Thanks for any advice.

tea tree shampoos and conditioner don’t really work well with dry/ frizzy knotty hair I find, how about the blue hydration shampoo and conditioner by herbal essence or tres semme?

I would try the cantu range of shampoo and conditioner.

If you don't mind silicones, Pantene is fab for coating the hair for shine. It doesn't work for everyone's hair but is great on my thick coloured hair. When rinsing out the conditioner, I use use a detangling Beauty Eco Friendly Straw Hairbrush, Flexible Soft Pin Bristles, Detangling Wet/Dry Hair, Head Massaging Pro (Oatmeal) amzn.eu/d/c5KCRNl Brush like this.

I have similar hair and would look for shampoo for fine hair or a smoothing one. Brushing twice a day minimum seems reasonable daily maintenance to me!

Using a serum or a leave-in conditioner while it’s damp will help. And blow dry carefully in the direction you want it to be.

Great budget option - Herbal Essences camomile Smooth & Shine range - look for the shampoo, conditioner and the Smooth & Shine Lightweight conditioner spray (a spray that deranges, nourishes, protects from heat).

Tangle Teaser brushes are good. More expensive option - try the GHD paddle brushes - really good.

This sounds like my hair type.
I'd second pantene, it's good for getting some slip on the hair strands. Tresseme do a good heat styling spay in a dark red bottle which stops hair drying out, and use a little serum on the bottom third and ends.

A combination of leaving the conditioner in for 10 minutes, using a ‘bath comb’ (very wide toothed) on the hair while it’s covered in conditioner and using spray-on conditioner between washes works for my dd.

She uses Aussie 3 minute miracle, but it’s less the specific conditioner and more the using lots and leaving it on for 10 minutes, then brushing the knots out, which seems to be the key bit.

Have you tried a silk bonnet or pillow?

Tangle Teezer brushes are great. Tea Tree shampoo needs to go in favour of something more moisturising and I'd add in a serum or hair oil as a finishing product.

Thanks for the tips everyone, really helpful we will give them a go.

Silk pillow is a game changer for wavy and straight hair. Wish I had discovered this years ago.

My DD uses the Merwave products. They are pricey but her hair looks absolutely amazing.

My daughter has really really thick curly hair which she likes to keep straight. The thing about having thick hair is it usually comes with a bit of itching scalp so…we use the body shop ginger shampoo, then I use loads of the herbal essence conditioner (it’s cheap usually) the brown one with coconut etc in. It’s great for leaving in for a few mins then coming out the knots.
