Help I need your money-saving beauty tips

Basically I'm now a SAHM with little budget. The only things I feel I can't give up are a good haircut every two months (40 quid in this part of London) and my Dermalogica skincare (bought online and used sparingly). I had acne most of my life and Dermalogica cured it at last.

But on everything else I need to cut back! What are your money-saving tips?

In particular, what inexpensive shampoo do you recommend?

Thanks!

I don't think it matters what shampoo you use to be honest. I think it's the method of application and the conditioner after that's important. Make sure your hair is completely saturated, put shampoo in your palms spread over hair, lather up, rinse, rinse, rinse. Rinse some more. Then I splurge on the conditioner keeping it one for 10 mins. Once an month I do a hot olive oil treatment. Cheap as chips but takes time and can be messy. Warm up some olive oil (blood heat) and pour over your hair. Wrap your head tightly in cling film, then dip a towel in hot water and wrap around your head (hot as you can bear). Relax for an hour, replace the towel at least once. Shampoo and condition as normal. Your hair will be beautifully shiny and soft.

Use vaseline dermacare as your moisturiser

A huge thing is £4

For a body scrub: sugar with olive oil drizzled over it - it's better than anything I've tried.

Don;t worry abou creasiness, when you get out of the shower/bath, just pat your skin dry. You don;t need any bgpodty moisturiser either, saving even more monet!

Not really beauty related but you can save a bundle on sanitary protection by using a mooncup.

I don't like to use oil in the bath because I don't want to risk clogging up the drains, especially as we are in rental housing.

But a good moisuriser is to get out of the bath and smooth on olive oil, then pat dry.

I also use olive oil to remove eye makeup.

If you've been a lifelong acne sufferer, chances are oil on hair or body are the last thing you need.

For a body scrub use a flannel or loofah.

boots own brand coconut and almond shampoo is good and 2 for £2 atm

vaseline is great for lots of things (instead of clear mascara, lips etc)

this collection mascara is pretty good

Barry M dazzle dusts can be used wet or dry and come in millions of brilliant colours and their lip glosses are excellent

I buy my shampoo and conditioner from www.ecotopia.co.uk ... the big bottles last forever, mine has been going over a year now. Like you, I splash out on skincare (Ren) but cut back elsewhere.

Porridge oats are great - tie a handful up in a uslin, pop it in your bath for silky smooth skin. Also great for use as a face mask or body scrub.

get your eyebrows shaped professionally and then maintain with tweezers at home - be vigilant though, those little suckers grow back fast!

what other stuff do you generally do? tell us and we'll see if we can come up with alternatives!
