Is there such a thing as golden blonde that isn't brassy?

I don't really understand the concept of brassiness when it comes to hair? Are all golden blond tones at risk of brassiness? I seem to suit golden blond tones better in some lights then look awful and jaundiced in others on the same day. Do purple shampoos really work to stop this?

I can't be bothered to dye my hair any more but I always used to get in done in ash blond in the past. It doesn't go brassy. Purple shampoo didn't really work for me.

They do work, use purple to remove the orange/brass reflect, and a touch of black if you want your hair ash/sand.

You don’t need special products either, just get little pots of Manic Panic and add a TINY dab to your regular / shampoo conditioner, will save you a fortune and you can adjust as needed.

i'm not sure ash blonde suits me unfortunately. Is it either ash or golden or are there any other options?

How do you mean a touch of black inkognitha? That sounds very dramatic and not very natural looking unless I'm misunderstanding what you mean? I'll look up manic panic...

Mine's fairly golden but not brassy. It's mostly natural though (some balayage for subtle extra lightening), which might make the difference? Purple or blue shampoo/conditioner should help though.

@BetterHairisOnlyFair Is it either ash or golden or are there any other options?

Blonde depends on 2 variables:
-cold to warm (platinum to brassy)
-light to dark (from super light to ashen/brown)

You got to decide your preferred level of both.

Manic Panic is semi-permanent dyes in all colours. It is a lot more concentrated than the pigments used in toning products, so you only need a little, tiny dab.

You use purple to correct warmth if you want a colder blonde, black if you find your blonde too bright/light and prefer ash.

I box dye, I used to go for "ash blonde" shades but the result was quite dark. Now I choose a blonde a bit lighter than my desired final result and I tone it with black/purple. It looks a lot better.

I use a purple mask from kerstase and it works a treat when my hair starts to go too yellow ( usually a couple of weeks after being done ) it just refreshes the coolness of it

I don't think this is what the OP means - I think she wants the warmth but doesn't want it to go orange/yellow. Ash doesn't suit everyone - I look ill with ash.

OP, I have highlighted hair (base a strawberry dark blonde level 8.34) and the highlights are toned 9.3. This gives me a lovely golden strawberry blonde - if it starts to go too brassy, my hairdresser tones it with 9.0/9.3 as a 50/50 mix.

I use Nice and Easy light beige blonde which is a bit different to ash, it’s not as grey. It’s a more caramel blonde.
