What shoes with Barrel legs

holidayfever2024 · 14/06/2025 19:59

This is my second shoe thread recently , so I think I can gather I must have some shoe gaps in my wardrobe.I have recently bought barrel legged trousers and much to my surprise I love them ! Hoping to wear them lots. I have two pairs- cream and khaki.
can anyone give me some shoe links as to what you would put with them?

Trainers will work but mine are looking a bit dated with this new shape , loafers look good on others but I haven’t worn them for aaages. I just need some ideas I am stuck in a shoe rut!

I have black clogs….

AlertCat · 14/06/2025 20:59

Any. I’ve worn trainers, Chelsea-type yard boots, and Birkenstocks sandals with mine, I’m finding them really versatile! (I’ve got jeans, cords, linen trousers and cotton trousers in the barrel shape.)

Can you give the khaki link please? Also if you didn’t mind your height?

I've just bought a pair of these as smart trainers for work - they're a lot more comfortable than adidas gazelles... and my teenager said they were nice which i took as a good sign! www.adidas.co.uk/tokyo_collection

holidayfever2024 · 15/06/2025 15:48

Thanks for the adidas links I had been looking at the Spezials a while ago so maybe they are worth a try . I have Birkenstocks - Boston and Arizona , so maybe I am not as stuck as I thought!

What’s the sizing like please?

Gyozas · 16/06/2025 22:45

I typically wear Gazelles (yellow or black or pink with black jeans), Birkenstock Bostons or two-straps or Blundstones on cooler days.

Hi! Those types of trainers create too much bulk around the ankle pared with those type of trousers. If you want trainers go for a pair that are flat like the adidas campus/gazelles. Flat loafers, strappy sandals.

Think of it this way when you have volume in one part of your outfit then the rest needs to be plain shaped/fitted to balance it out.

barrel legs look great with cropped jackets or blazers too.

bge · 17/06/2025 06:45

I wear my white barrels with silver pointy flats, flip flops, and trainers - but gazelle type trainers only. My bigger trainers make me look like a mum in the 80s with that leg shape

i also really like them with hi tops

laclochette · 17/06/2025 08:56

Slimline trainers. Not chunky ones.

Pointed flats or low heels.

Those velvet Mary Jane/ballet flat Venetian shoes that are all the rage right now.

In each case they counter the bulk.

BeesAndCrumpets · 17/06/2025 10:22

I love mine with a mary jane, a greek sandal - anything really, honestly

Branleuse · 17/06/2025 18:48

I like wearing my jordan lows with my barrel jeans.

BananaBreadBummy · 18/06/2025 14:35

Barrel leg look best with shoes that are dainty or slim around the ankle, eg sliders and sandals or ballerina pumps or little heels. The padded bulky Hoka and similar chunky trainers don't look best, though i do sometimes wear them together out of practicality.

Carpetnotright · 18/06/2025 19:42

I wear them with loafers.

ThinWomansBrain · 18/06/2025 21:40

Loafers, ballet flats, or my absolute favourite, converse Mary Janes

NeilDiamondsBlowDry · 18/06/2025 21:42

Tap Shoes

RobinEllacotStrike · 18/06/2025 23:07

I wear mine with Birkenstock, Shuv & Blundstones.
also flip flops

Purplecatshopaholic · 19/06/2025 08:29

Wear mine with DM sandals, or Mary Jane flats mainly.

chaosmaker · 19/06/2025 11:38

@holidayfever2024 surely tap shoes are the only sensible choice with barrels?

holidayfever2024 · 23/06/2025 19:06

Thanks everyone sorry I missed the extra replies, I have worn them so far with my Birkenstocks and think they work fine with flip flops and my tan flat sandals . I have been coveting several pairs of Adidas trainers but ended up ordering some lovely Cream Sam Edelman ‘sneakers’ that I hope will work well and should be a pretty useful wardrobe addition.
i really fancy some Mary Janes too !
thanks for all the ideas .

edited : typos !
