Halo hair extensions - do you need hair all one length and are there other brands?

Just wondering if you can get halo hair extensions with any hair style or if you have to have straight one length hair for it to work? I was thinking of getting some but just got a layer cut in my hair. Will it still work? And is Halo the best brand or are there other options? I'm near Edinburgh but there doesn't seem to be anywhere nearby that does Halo.

Have you tried one on before? I had one and couldn’t get on with it- you can really feel the string part. I usually have a few layers weaved in, have had nano rings etc before too so am fairly used to extensions. I would personally get good quality clips over halo-I tried loosened, tight, diff positions and it was so uncomfortable after a couple of hours whatever I did

I have ME/CFS and don't have a lot of energy for hair styling so I'm really looking for something manageable with minimal effort but comfort does matter too. Others have been positive about halos on here and less so about the clips but I guess different people have different experiences. How long does it take to learn how to use the clips? Can you just use a few at the front or do you need them throughout your whole head of hair? I struggle doing the back in particular which is why the halo appealed. Also, don't they damage the hair? Or is that only if you use them a lot? How much effort did you find the nano rings?

I don’t wear clips regularly- I have a few rows weaved in general- super comfy and easy because no taking in and out. I bought the halo because reviews were saying how comfortable it was- for me it was unwearable. It would def be worth you trying one if you can before buying.

I prefer a few rows weaved in to the nano rings as you get less visible joins with hair movement

Do you have to plait your hair every night? How many plaits? And dry it every night too? I could probably cope with the plaiting. Not sure about the drying/styling just after washing!

I wish I’d kept mine and I would’ve literally sent it over to you to have a go with
I liked it, My hair is very curly and it wasn’t particularly convincing in terms of the curls so it looked as though I had a poodle stuck on top of my head and then a perm at the back
I don’t know if you’re old enough to remember the days where Girls used to have a short haircut on the top and then like the underlayers were permed.
That’s how I ended up

Following with interest because I’d also like to know before I order!!

I got my split ends “trimmed” about 3 weeks ago……and the woman literally took off half my hair 😳😭😭😭😭
I’ve got super thick hair, and she cut it so bluntly, it now just looks like a box. I have quite a round face, so shorter hair does not look good on me at all. I’ve always had hair that’s around boob length….and it’s been cut against my will to my shoulders. It looks ridiculous, and because it’s all one length, the clip in extensions I bought don’t blend at all and looks equally ridiculous.
i keep seeing halo extensions, but don’t want to waste more money if they also won’t blend with the monstrosity currently adorning my bonce 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️😭😭😭

I've had two.

It's always a 50/50 whether it'll trigger a migraine in my case, but then I am prone to them. The wire digs into your head and leaves an indentation.

If you get one do lots of research and I would say avoid the company 'halohairextentions' because they go tatty real quick. They claim to be 100% REMY hair but I'm not convinced.

I'm going back to clip ins.

weave is done at hairdressers- it’s not removable- she moves them up every six weeks or so- I get new hair every three times or so. @BlackFriYayexperience sounds the same as mine with halo- indent and migraine/headache- might be a bit risky with CFS?

@jimmypug Do you mind me asking roughly how much you pay for that? I'm interested in getting something a bit more permanent (ie doesn't need to be taken out every day) but have no idea about the cost of such hair extensions 😊

jimmypug · 07/06/2025 20:28

For original fitting is I think is £20 a row (I have 4) then for a move up/tidy is like £40. But I’m very lucky that I’ve been going to the same hairdresser for about 15 years so I’m not sure what prices are like elsewhere (I’m Midlands). Look for an established Afro Caribbean and European hair a salon if you have near.

Hair wise I buy from cliphair.co.uk as quality is reliable, two packs. I get one pack 18, one 16 so it layers in naturally and looks less blocky.
