Can you dress my teen?

DD has work experience in a hospital next week. She's 17, about 160cm (so ideally petite range,) and 60kg (about size 10). Nice waist, slightly heavier on the bottom half.

She has nothing suitable to wear and no time to shop.

Can you put me together an outfit? Including shoes! I always find shoes hard. Ideally from Next, as it's the only place I can get a click and collect.

As it's in a hospital she'll be warm and also needs to be bare below the elbow.

Please help. I'm so unstylish myself.

What does she wear for school at the moment? Seems daft to buy something special if she can use something she's got already. Pair of trousers and t-shirt/short sleeved blouse would be fine.

Octavia64 · 05/06/2025 22:16

Plain black trousers (possibly already has for school uniform?). Shirt or t shirt as top.

rockstuckhardplace · 05/06/2025 22:18

No uniform currently and she's at a v casual sixth form. I don't mind buying sth now as she'll need something for interviews shortly too.

Ironically I might buy some school trousers as they're so much cheaper than women's!

Seriously, I can't even put together a basic outfit that looks good. It's the shoes I struggle with.

I think it's ok for her to look like a 17yo
So some black trousers, mine would wear bootcut black legging type, or perhaps wide leg. Saw some ponte black wide leg ones on the next site which looked good.

Then a top, whatever she normally wears at the weekend!
Or a plain ribbed scoop neck from next?
And her normal shoes? Gazelles?

Octavia64 · 05/06/2025 22:31

Shoes - presumably she will be on her feet a lot of the day, so comfort over style.

on next you can filter by colour and by size - they have a lot of plain black shoes. Personally I love Dr Maartens but the prices these days are insane.

something like this is smart but also quite neutral

These trousers https://www.next.co.uk/style/su540345/aw3114#aw3114

a t shirt like this that is fitted to balance the trousers

Thank you so much for providing some links. I think the top is fantastic! Trousers maybe look a bit casual, plus I'm not sure she has the height fir them?

They do look casual on the hanger but they are linen and hang quite well

thismummydrinksgin · 05/06/2025 22:37

Black school trousers will be fine in whichever style she prefers, my DD still likes skinny

I was actually looking at these very shoes. Just feels v school uniform if paired with black trousers. I do wish Next told you what the other items in the photos were so you could copy the outfits!

I work for the nhs. Admin staff. I would say, just plain black trousers, the next top would be fine or maybe a fitted plain tshirt (v or round neck) and some loafers. Hospitals are big and some walking might be needed.

DonningMyHardHat · 05/06/2025 22:49

What area will she be in? It will vary a lot from admin to physio for example.

Generally speaking, plain shirt or blouse, any trousers that aren’t jeans, joggers or leggings, and plain trainers or even crocs (basically any shoes that are comfy and covered). She doesn’t need to look business smart. Most of us in (non doctor) healthcare roles that don’t wear uniform are quite casual. And most trusts are fine with trainers as it’s accepted that there will be a lot of time on your feet.

Gutted - that top isn't available in the right size in ivory/white.

Yes, that's what I'm aiming for, but I can't put actual items together to make an outfit.

Thanks. I'm not struggling with the type of things she needs to wear. I'm trying to put actual items in an online basket!

So this is the kind of thing I'm struggling with. I like the top that thaegum posted above, but it's not available in plain white/ivory.

I like this colourway but it looks like it only goes with blue denim, not work trousers.

What colour would you pick? Would have to be size 8 j think as Next tops are oversized IME

Most of us clinical staff wear either scrubs or black trousers, trainers are fine and a polo shirt with a collar. Cotton traders has them.

What is her role in the hospital?

You over thinking it. This tops would look fine with loafers and black trousers

In a plain colour.
