Garden party - trousers?!

I will (reluctantly) be the centre of attention at a garden party in early July.

After many decades years of trying and failing to look good in dresses, I’d really like to wear trousers but as part of an outfit with a “garden party” vibe.

I’m early 50s, 5”10 and a size 10/12. A slightly blunted hourglass shape, but with a bit of a tummy which means I don’t suit fuss or focus at the waist. I don’t like loud patterns, very bright colours, or lots of frills. I also prefer natural fibres, suit wide legs rather than skinny, and I just don’t get on with jumpsuits.

My “best” look is very simple and tailored, but I’m struggling with how to make that work in this context. Budget is relatively flexible, especially as hopefully I’ll get lots of wear (you can probably tell my wardrobe is fairly limited 😀 so I do get use of the things I love)

Wise ones of S&B, can you help me please?!

How about a co-ord set? There are lots around at the moment, many floral or linen that would be appropriate for a garden party

E.g. mintvelvet.com/collections/matching-sets

Cos, 100 stars, sezane, Reiss etc all worth a look at

I am really sorry to say that polyester monstrosity from Jj house is hideous.

op - how about some wide leg linen trousers? Maybe with a matching waist coat type top?

OK I didn't look at the fabric just the outfit. No need to be so dismissive, I was only trying to give suggestions.

Style snobs abound.

@zenae I am sorry - that was really rude of me. I just have a hatred of Chinese websites like that one. But that’s no excuse for being rude.

Check out COS and Massimo Dutti if you haven't already - their styles are often quite long in the leg and they both have many natural materials. But read the composition, sometimes they are fabric mixes rather than pure natural materials

The dreaded polyester but a bit more quirky:

I think Poetry may be your vibe. Simple natural fabrics.

Thanks all. Some great ideas here. I’d seen and liked the wide leg trouser and waistcoat combo but wasn’t sure if what looks good on a lissome young thing would on middle aged me just look like if got dressed for work but in a menopausal brain fart forgot to put my shirt on

@LentilDoll no, definitely not. I am in your age range and have just bought something similar.

Nonsense. I'm sorry but I really can't stand this "oh it's only for young, tall, slim, models" mindset.
