Old lady lizard hands - HELP!

I know there are a billion hand cream threads out there already but I have just looked down at my hands, merrily typing away and I am HORRIFIED. They seem to have aged about 20 years since the last time I properly looked at them. Or been replaced by reptile hands while I was sleeping or something. They are horrifically wrinkly all of a sudden.

I do use hand cream regularly, I have a lovely Burts Bees lavender and honey one next to me on my desk right now and I’ve applied it twice today already. But clearly I need something a bit more heavy duty! Is there anything out there that really works? Or am I just destined to have hands 20 years older than my face now?

I said on another thread I use okeefes working hands it is great my hands look fine my skin doesn't look crepey as it used to, but it is thin now so I now have veiny hands (sigh)

I’ve been using Nursem Caring Skin Fix on my hands every night for about 2 months and they are starting to look a bit better.

Retinol hand cream at night?

henlake7 · 04/06/2025 18:06

I use the Neutrogena one, plaster my hands in it before bed and it seems to really work (that and collagen!).

I second o’keefe’s working hands. It’s fabulous. I work with livestock and wash my hands 50 million times a day at lambing time. It’s the only thing that stops my skin literally peeling off. It’s a wonder product.
I have recommended it to all my friends who love it too.

Mix a drop or two of castor oil into your handcream too. It's excellent for skin tone and moisture.

I like CeraVe SA, I just rub some into my hands when I moisturise my body and they're looking much better. I also rub Vaseline into them at bedtime when I remember (you can apply it over cream to lock it in) and sometimes sleep with cotton gloves over the top, although they are annoying when you want to scratch something in the night!

I've realised far too late in life that apart from my face my hands are the one part of me that is always exposed to sun, and that I only ever put sunscreen on them on a city break or a walk in the UK if I'm applying it to arms and shoulders, and then I often wash my hands if I'm going to touch my phone etc to stop getting sunscreen over them.. I don't know why more hand creams don't come with SPF in.

Eucarin Aquaphor is amazing.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 04/06/2025 18:58

I've used Neutrogena Norwegian formula for years. If I've forgotten to put some on before I go to bed, I just use a dab of my night time face moisturiser which I keep on my bedside table.

BlueEyedBogWitch · 04/06/2025 18:59

The Neutrogena overnight hand masks are very good.

When I was a child I was fascinated by my grandmother's hands because I could see through the skin to her bones and veins. That's what my hands look like now!

BreatheAndFocus · 04/06/2025 19:04

Flexitol Foot Cream I tried everything on my hands and this is the only thing that’s made a noticeable difference - so much so that after a few weeks I could see that I hadn’t been spreading it right to the edge of the back of my hands as that bit was drier and crepier whereas the middle was moisturised and smoother.

stealthsquirrelnutkin · 04/06/2025 20:32

I always have different hand creams within easy reach, next to the soap dispenser in the kitchen and bathroom, and next to my chair.

I found using retinol serum on my face at night and 5 in 1 serum in the morning has made a big difference to my raddled old lady facial skin, so after applying the serum drops with my fingertips I now use the backs of my hands to spread them around and rub them in. The serum seems to penetrate much more deeply than moisturising creams, and to plump up that thinning old lizard skin. Then I keep them from drying out during the day by applying hand cream regularly.

When I apply SPF50 to my face and neck before going outdoors I also use the backs of my hands to spread it around. Or if I'm using an over make up SPF50 spray I spray it on the backs of my hands too.

L’occitane Shea butter hand cream in the silver tube - it’s pricey but you can buy it cheaper on Amazon than the shop - absolutely amazing stuff. My hands have been peeling they’ve been so sore and dry, and this has nearly healed them in just over a week. I can’t believe how much better they look and feel.

missg00se · 05/06/2025 16:33

Thanks all for the ideas. Lots of things to try but I think those who mention the sunscreen thing might have a point! I’ll try to put some of my SPF face cream on them from now on when I’m doing my face.

I actually use a foot cream on my hands and feet every night. Avon Footworks overnight. I add some essential oil to it also. My nails seem to like it too.

iliketheradio · 05/06/2025 19:15

Body shop hemp hand cream is the best I’ve ever tried. Plus SPF them. Also never clean, wash dishes etc without rubber gloves.
