Nail grinders / polishers ??

My elderly Dad wants/needs a nail grinder for thick toenails.

I've looked online and haven't a clue.

It needs to be functional, robust and simple to use, and preferably battery and not yet another thing that needs recharging. It doesn't need to have loads of very fancy tips for polishing and manicuring.

Can any of fantastic ladies advise on something that might be suitable?

Try and persuade him to see a podiatrist or chiropodist. Infections in the feet in the elderly can be really serious. The grinder might cut him etc

I do partly agree, but he is extremely capable with power tools of all sorts for his woodworking hobby.
Though if that is the majority opinion I will tell him so!

Please do not do this. I work closely with Nursing homes. I actually know one man, just like your dad, who lost his foot and lower limb in similar circumstances. Blood flow to the feet can be very poor and an infection following a cut lead to a dreadful outcome for that gentleman. Podiatrist in all circumstances.

Ok. I'll tell Dad it's a no go.
Thank you both.

Podiatrist here, and you are correct in what you advise. Thank you. ☺️

Oh my goodness - terrible idea!

Glad you’ve had good advice here.

Don’t know your father’s age or health condition but if he has any issues with his feet he really needs to set up regular appointments with the relevant foot specialist. It’s not a DIY thing.

I go to a chiropodist as i have really tough toenails and the people there sort my nails out. I totally recommend sending your Dad to one. I would not recommend that he does this himself. Chiropodists offer advice and can help him out.
