Disappointed after hair dresser appointment- with pics!

I’ve just spent an absolute arm and leg at the hairdresser (again) and so disappointed with the results. I wanted baby highlights to blend in the greys- I’m naturally dark with about 30% grey spread throughout. I would like to look effortless but this is effortful and looks a bit shit. Surely there is a better way? Have home dyes improved? Do people use foils at home or would it have to just be one all over colour? I would like to either save money and accept it’s not perfect, or spend money and feel really pleased with the results!

I do need to condition it properly- I think it’s gone so frizzy because she didn’t dry it properly because I was in a rush. The first 40mins or so was putting the foils in, she said she’d come back to take them out in 20 minutes but it was more like 45 and then wash, toner on for 5 mins then another wash and by then I was running late so just asked for a quick blow dry.

I'm really sorry but if you want it properly fixed you need to go to a professional

But you should get a refund for that poor job first

TartanMammy · 29/05/2025 23:57

It doesn't look great. It's not blended well and the blonde is too harsh against your natural colour.

Try a home toner and deep conditioning mask, overnight if you can. Your hair looks dried out.

I get a full head highlights, toner and cut and blow dry and I'm usually in the salon for 4-5hours so it sounds like you haven't left enough time. That doesn't excuse a bad job but perhaps she's rushed it.

What does her other work look like on social media? Does she work for a salon or herself?

SquashedMallow · 30/05/2025 00:06

I'm sorry, but it doesn't look professionally done at all.

I feel your pain. I've had some (very expensive) disaster jobs in recent years. And for some reason is Brits are awful at being confrontational with hairdressers.

I'd go to a different hairdresser and say you want a toner put on it.

bubblesformiles · 30/05/2025 00:15

Your hair is very dark to take blonde colour like this. I have dark hair and I get a tint underneath which makes my dark less dark around my highlights if you know what I mean. I don't think you've had good advice here from the colourist but I would be going back and talking to them. Your hair does look very dry. Dumping dark dye over this is just a temporary fix and it could go badly wrong.

Beekeeping Loreal excellance is my go to .They have shampoo /conditioner as well . Good range of blonde colours

coolmum123 · 30/05/2025 09:04

As a pp said you need to go back and talk to a more senior colourist and get them to correct it. They shouldn’t charge you for the correction. Then look to another hair salon for future appointments.
if you can find a pic of the colour style you want take that along so they can see what you are after. I can never really explain what I want either so find this a useful way to communicate what I would like. Hope you get it sorted. Good luck.

I think I’m just done with the whole hairdresser thing @BitOutOfPractice- if I had big brass balls I could march back and demand a redo but honestly what if it still looks shit. This is not sustainable- I cannot spend this much money to look this awful!

finding another hairdresser who is not extortionate and booked up till the end of time, feels impossible.

is home dying blonde just a no no? Should I just go dark for ease?!

you don't have to march back and 'demand' anything. But honestly, if you spent a lot of money on it and are nto happy, no hairdresser worth their salt would not sort it for you. Just go back and say, calmly and empathically, that you are really not happy and can they do anything? You do not need to stamp, shout and demand anything to get good service. you can be calm, friendly and even nice.. and it will help you.
If you apid a lot of money you are cutting off your nose if you don't at least try and get it sorted with them.
Good luck. Agree it's not great and i think they should be able to improve and help you to feel good about it.

Whereabouts on the uk are you? After years of unsatisfactory expensive hairdresser trips and home colouring I got an appointment at a local independent hair training salon

They specialise in colour and up to date techniques etc. It took twice as long as a normal appointment but I went blonde, toned, cut and style and it cost me £30! (I did tip a tenner though)

The woman who runs it has local award winning salons and had oversight of my appointment

BunnyEaster · 30/05/2025 12:38

A training salon sounds amazing. We have a college near us but I've not been brave enough yet to try them

MidnightMeltdown · 30/05/2025 15:02

It’s not great. There is too much blonde, it’s not a nice shade, and it doesn’t compliment your natural hair colour. I can understand why you’re not happy. You need some dark put back in your hair and a better toner but it really needs to be done by a hairdresser unfortunately. I’ve been back to a hairdresser and asked for more dark tones to be put back in before. I would be aiming for something more like this:
