How to get a salon blow dry look at home?

I’d really like to be able to recreate that bouncy blow dry look you get at the hair salon. I’ve really tried with a hairdryer and round brush but I don’t think I’m ever going to get the hang of it!

Is there a tool I can use which will achieve this for me? Something easy to use and fairly foolproof would be good! I was searching old threads which recommended the revlon one step, but that was a few years ago now!

I've got the dyson airwrap with the curler and the round brush attachments, it took me a few goes to get used to but now I love it and have had comments about how bouncy my hair is. But it does depend on your hair type and it is expensive.

If you curl your hair with a curler tool, does it stay curled for most of the day? If so then it might work for your hair, but if it falls flat within an hour of curling unless you cement it with hair spray then it might not.

I think they do good returns, a colleague returned hers as it didn't work for her hair, but check that first because it's an expensive purchase. I've only had mine since Christmas and although so far so good, I can't comment on how long it will last although it does have a warranty.

Revlon One Step is what you need .

Shark flexistyle amazing, as the previous poster said it depends on hair type but I love mine best money I’ve spent.

I've just bought a Drybar halfshot. Used it today for the first time, dried my hair quickly but not as smooth as my revlon one step ( which is on its last legs). I'm hoping I will get better with more practice 😀

Revlon one stop. I have thick wavy hair and need to dry my hair 90% with a normal dryer then section and run through with one step and it's a perfect bouncy blow dry.
I have the babylon big hair too but the revlon is better.

purplebabyelephant · 29/05/2025 19:30

Thank you everyone! I’m quite attracted to the revlon one step because it’s so much cheaper than the other options, so please to see a few votes for it!

@Aprilcherry04 why did you go for the dry bar rather than replacing the revlon?

Revlon One Step is the thing that gets me as close as possible of the "skilled hairdresser blow dry" style.

That + sleeping with my hair twisted in a silk bonnet overnight. I wake up with some serious bouncy waves.

NotMyUsualName23 · 29/05/2025 20:52

I bought the Revlon one step after someone on here recommended it.
Absolute game changer, I now have smooth bouncy hair every day with very little effort.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 29/05/2025 21:03

Another vote for the Revlon One Step.

sciaticafanatica · 29/05/2025 21:08

I got the revlon one step this week and have used it twice.
it’s brilliant!
so easy & foolproof.
best £30 I’ve spent in a sale in a long time

C080889 · 29/05/2025 21:11

Yes to Revlon one step!

purplebabyelephant · 29/05/2025 21:31

Ok thanks everyone, I’m sold on the revlon one step I think! For less than £40 it has to be worth a try…

@purplebabyelephant my Revlon one step keeps overheating - I think I have it just under 3 years so fancied trying something different. The drybar is a smaller brush and I have a shortish bob. I did love my revlon though!

FumbDucker · 29/05/2025 21:53

Revlon one stop but put your hair in Velcro rollers to make it last if your hair is fine/silky, take a little practice but you’ll get good in no time, YouTube/TikTok tutorials are great.

However, I progressed from that to the Shark Flex and I have no regrets, wash and it’s blow dried into bouncy curls from wet in like 15 mins

Labiabella · 29/05/2025 21:59

Does this work for really thick hair? My hair takes so incredibly long to dry, and puffs up unless I blow dry it properly.

I have think hair that is also puffy. I blow dry roughly with a drier then finish off with the one step.

I'm guessing those saying the Revlon haven't used the dyson/shark type one. I have used both and the dyson/shark ones are 1000% easier if your a novice.

sciaticafanatica · 30/05/2025 10:21

@lovehearts88i just couldn’t get on with the Dyson

HelpMeDoTheMaths · 07/06/2025 19:13

.

sciaticafanatica · 07/06/2025 19:23

@purplebabyelephanthow did you get on with it?

coatandwellies · 07/06/2025 20:03

I'm also interested in achieving a, near as possible, salon finish at home. Can anyone share which model of the Revlon one step is best; I've found two on Amazon; One-step multi dry at £54 and the hairdryer and volumiser for £29.99. Thank you

HelpMeDoTheMaths · 08/06/2025 09:28

I’ve ordered a Revlon one. Thx for the recommendation.
