Tretinoin - for fine lines and wrinkles at 58?

Darkmudder · 28/05/2025 13:01

I dont have acne or pigmentation - is it worth trying Tretinoin?

Does it reverse or prevent fine lines?

Where can I find genuine before and after pics?

I dont really have a skin care routine - cleanse - except factor 50 - moisturise.

Do I need to be doing Botox as well or something else?

I’ve been using tret for about six years and wouldn’t say it’s been transformational in terms of lines (and nor unfortunately can it help my jowls) but it has removed all pigmentation and gives a youthful glow.

I've been using tretinoin for several years. Am early 60s and my skin is much better now than it was previously - one grandchild asked the other day why haven't I got any wrinkles!

I buy from a Spanish pharmacy online, am not a fan of skin+me and their so called personalised prescription. They sent DC and me exactly the same 'prescription' despite different skin types and concerns.

Please would you mind pm'ing the details too? Thank you 🙂

I have just picked up my first tube from the pharmacy. I was prescribed 0.05%, which seems high. I have been using retinol for years so I’ll introduce slowly and see how I go.

FlipperyGibbet · 29/05/2025 14:18

I've been on and off tret for a few years now, stopping during pregnancy and BF. Am 34 with acne, rosacea and scarring. Have been back on now for about 3 weeks and already seeing a difference: acne is calming down mainly. Am glad I've found this thread though as I pay around £100 a tube for Obagi 0.05% so if anyone could PM me the details of their cheaper pharmacies I would be hugely grateful!

Maybe I’m being delusional, but after just a couple of days my skin feels and looks better. Not necessarily wrinkle free, but the texture feels nicer. So a thumbs up from me so far 👍

Just to add, if you start on Tret steer well clear of Botox and AHA’s. Tret alone is enough

It depends what she means by ‘wrinkles’. I use Tret every night but also have Botox in my 11s and filler in my cheeks to get rid of the nano-labial and marionette lines. Tret will improve any imperfections in the skin, including fine lies, but it can’t get rid of wrinkles.

Is this what you order?
Magistral formulation of 0.4% tretinoin + 0.2% hyaluronic acid in 30g cream

Bloodythorns · 02/06/2025 20:05

No, I have this:

RETIRIDES 0.5MG/GR CREMA TRETINOINA 30G

Excuse caps, I copied and pasted!

I’m on 0.05% and I’ve had no reaction. It’s still early days but I can see an improvement. I’m 55

I used it for 9 months with really good results. I’ll try and post a before and after pic. I used it for the lines under my eyes. Started on a low dose and gradually increased to the maximum. I got it from Dermatica.
unfortunately I didn’t heed the warning signs and broke my skin barrier so, at the moment I’ve stopped. I will go back to it again, on a lower dose, once my skin has repaired itself. Motto of the story: go slow and low, it’s potent stuff. Hopefully you can see a difference in the photos. First one is before I started using it

This is a fabulous result - what is a high dose and what is a low dose?

If you go to skin & me and create an account, do the questionnaire and add the items to your basket but don't buy they'll send you an email offering them to you for £5ish.

To get tret added you do need to do the photos though.

The prescription is £25 a month iirc, with the tube lasting the month. I liked it but now buy tret online from India, a years supply is about £30. I'd recommend one of the subscription services first though.

I have just done this with Skin and Me - uploaded my photos - £3.50 for first and 5th month and £25 in between (assume I can cancell if it doesnt suit me). Felt safer as you say to start with this and then shop elsewhere down the line.

Skin and me tried to sell me all their sunblock, serum and moisturiser etc. I wear a moisturiser with a 50 SPF in it - will that be sufficient - or do I need 2 separate products?

I also looked at the Derm site and they say that you need to reapply the SPF every 2hrs - is that what everyone is going?

@Darkmudder I used the freebie sample sizes of stuff they sent at the beginning (I'm assuming you'll get them too?), but didn't want to keep stumping up for the stuff that doesn't require a prescription! I use CeraVe hydrating cleanser and CeraVe moisturiser, and Garnier SPF50 (I just apply it once a day). It all seems to work just as well as their products!

twiddlingthumbs69 · 03/06/2025 19:00

@Darkmudder. I started on a 0.3% and increased to 1% (someone will correct me on the wrong placement of the decimal point). 1% is the highest you can get and that’s what I was using for 7 months

No, spf 50, once in the morning that’s all, but then I’m mostly indoors in the day. It’s a bit impractical to expect people to apply it 2 hourly.

Anyone not notice much difference with trent? I don't think I do and I'm 47.
