I'm due back to work in August and with 2 DC to get out the house for nursery and breakfast club i won't have a lot of time to get myself ready, but would like a wee bit of makeup to so I don't look exhausted before i even arrive at work. 🤣

What are your make up routines?
How long do.they take?
Any products that you swear by to save time and make you look presentable?

For office days I do tinted moisturiser, fill in my brows with a brow pencil and then curl my lashes & put mascara on. Take a few minutes but I feel like it makes such a difference

Backtoworkstylerut · 28/05/2025 10:12

Just strip it back to the essentials so for me that’s filling in my eyebrows, mascara, for my face I like elf halo glow and a cream blush. Takes ten mins max.

Icedcaramelfrappe · 28/05/2025 10:12

Tinted moisturiser, eye brow powder, bronzer, mascara and lip butter for me. Takes 3 minutes

bluecurtains14 · 28/05/2025 10:12

I don't wear any makeup for work - you don't need it, and if you don't get used to wearing it every day you won't miss it and you'll have that time spare. Makeup industry is largely just playing on women's insecurities.

I wore make up for years and went through a stage of not wearing any to work. So could go without, however I like wearing makeup and just makes me feel a teeny bit better so trying to find a solution to my manic mornings to fit something in for me.

I take 10 mins. Primer, Maybelline 4 in 1 concealer, under eye concealer, powder, bronzer, blush, setting spray, brows, lashes. I've got it down to a fine art jow

Topbird29 · 28/05/2025 16:57

I don't tend to do any foundation/ tinted moisturiser. Prob should, but all show up nose pores, and don't really have time in morning to faff too much with primer etc. Have got brow boy gel for eyebrows (although don't always bother as wear glasses and frames cover my brows anyway). Do eyeshadow - palette or stick - in quite a neutral colour but with a shimmer, a taupe eyeliner under bottom lashes, bit of mascara. Bit of lip balm and good to go. Takes about 5 mins, and is just enough to.have made a bit of effort.

abnerbrownsdressinggown · 28/05/2025 17:01

Tinted moisturiser, concealer if needed. Fill in brows then brow gel. Curl eyelashes then mascara. Takes 5 mins tops.

GivingUpFinally · 28/05/2025 17:06

I do pretty much a full face...

Foundation
Bronzer as blush
Light eyeshadow for my oily lids
Liquid eyeliner
Mascara
Lip pencil plus gloss

It takes me max 8 mins. If I don't manage to get it on at home before leaving becathe toddler has a meltdown, wants extra cuddles or whatever it is that they NEED in that moment. Shock and horror - I apply my makeup on the train. I know exactly how long it takes because that's the time between the first station stop.

Having my Eyebrows and upper lip waxed and lvls done regularly help me feel more groomed as well.

Jobwelldone · 28/05/2025 17:17

Mine takes about 5 minutes-tinted spf (Supergoop or Ultrasun)
or
Erborian CC cream
eyeliner
mascara
lipstick
Eyebrows micro bladed so no need to worry about them

if you’re not fussed about foundation, tinted tan drops in your moisturiser gives a good colour so one less step.

ditto mascara-get lashes tinted but appreciate busy with dc’s & work may not leave much time for this appointment every few weeks.

I sweep a Clinique foundation onto my face with a brush, dab a little blush on each cheek, put a brown line over my upper lash line and a little lip balm. Given up bothering with mascara. Takes 2 minutes.

The line on my eyes is the trickiest bit. After doing this for 40 years, I still can't quite master it like some people can!

vinavine · 28/05/2025 17:52

I don't have make up specifically for work.

I use bronzer, blusher, eyebrow pencil & mascara. Sometimes add tinted moisturiser

chloechloe · 28/05/2025 19:20

I can do a full face in 10 min with BB / CC cream, concealer, bronzer, blusher, eyeliner, eyeshadow, eyelash curlers, mascara, brow gel.

My top tips though with little ones:

Get a small makeup bag with just the things you need so you’re (a) not rummaging about looking for things and (b) you can move it round the house (or throw in your handbag) if need be. If you can’t find 10 min in one go you could do your base and then finish the rest eg while your little ones are eating breakfast.

Find products that are really quick to use and give great results. I love Erborian BB or CC cream. Benefit Gimme Brow is amazing. Nudestix chunky eyeliners are really quick to swipe on.

If you only have time for a few products, think about which ones make the most difference to you. If you’re pale a swipe of blusher or bronzer might make the most difference whereas if you have fair hair you might prioritise mascara and your brows.

Using facial tanning drops every few days might also allow you to skip your base or use less.

Yawn 🙄

ICantBeDoingWithThat · 28/05/2025 19:28

I take 5 minutes.
Max Factor facefinity spf20 compact. It's like a concealer, foundation and powder in one.
Light brush of bronzer, Benefit hoola or similar.
Mascara.
Lipgloss. Done.
Out the door.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 28/05/2025 20:53

I put a light powder cover to even my skin tone, then it's just fill in the eyebrows and mascara. And maybe a bit of blusher.

Sometimes I wear a lip tint as well if I want to be extra polished.

Darkdiamond · 28/05/2025 21:27

I've 3 kids and work full time. I have everything left out the night before; uniform, lunches, water bottles etc. I also have all of my clothes for the next day and makeup sitting out so I'm not scrambling about.

I get up 30 minutes before my kids. While the kettle is boiling, I wash my face. Then I habe a vvv quick shower, get out, put on SPF, foundation, eyebrow pencil, eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, blush. I brush my teeth and put my lipstick on. My hair is always in some sort of a messy bun so I don't need to style it. I have a box of accessories so always have nice sparkly things including nice earrings, that take 2 seconds to put on.

Then I get dressed and wake my kids, but the 'me' part takes around 30 mins and is so worth it to feel good about myself all day.

Darkdiamond · 28/05/2025 21:33

lightslittle · 28/05/2025 19:22

Yawn 🙄

I yawned too. Nobody really needs anything beyond a sackcloth and bar of soap, but I don't like to have all the fun sucked out of my life.

deeahgwitch · 28/05/2025 21:38

I use a sweep of bronzer, eye pencil, a Boots no colour lip liner, mascara, under eye concealer and lipstick- I can put the lippie on in the car without having to use a mirror.

VictorianScreenTime · 28/05/2025 21:40

Totally agree with @Darkdiamond about prepping the night before and getting up a bit before the DC. Clothes, shoes and bags/lunches all ready to go. I get up early to get myself dressed, dog walked, coffee made and then get the DC up.

I have a make-up routine similar to most of the above with all the bits I need laid out on my dresser ready to go. At a minimum I find filled in eyebrows (benefit “precisely my brow pencil”) , mascara and a bit of blush (I use glossier cloud paint which seems to last well) make me look less knackered. But now that I’m in a routine I go for some foundation, bit of bronzer and eyeliner also.

user1471554720 · 28/05/2025 21:46

I have a high colour so if I don't wear make up, I have people asking why my face is so red.

Strictly speaking, I don't need it as a 53 year old, but I don't know how to answer when people ask me why my face is so red!!!

Maybe bluecurtains14 can advise me on what to say, as I don't NEED make up.

However wearing light foundation helps me to blend in with others and I LOVE the way no one looks twice at me when I wear make up.

lightslittle · 28/05/2025 21:57

I got distracted earlier when I went to properly reply to this, and end up googling and buying a CC cream I saw mentioned 😆

my routine is much the same as those already mentioned, I don’t get up earlier than my toddler but a couple of things that have helped me. I wash my face as soon as I wake up, and do moisturiser and SPF, then go down for breakfast with toddler, so by the time we’re back upstairs to get ready it’s all properly soaked in.

I do a light foundation, brush of powder and bronzer. Then quick sweep of eyeshadow and a Bobbi Brown shadow stick on my eyeline, pencil in brows and then mascara. It’s easily done in 5 mins tops!

Bugahug · 29/05/2025 18:17

Cheers for the replies tinted moisturiser seems popular I tried years ago but will give it another go as I'm sure there are a lot more products to choose from now.

I'm actually really looking forward to going make up shopping before returning to work. I've had years of just not doing make up for work and just don't want to be a frumpy mum anymore haha

Charlotte Tilbury Health Glow, its like a tinted moisturiser but you can build it up, it's £35 but worth it, lasts ages.
Eyebrow pencil, mascara on my bottom lashes (I have lash extensions, life saver😉) then a brush of blusher and a wap all over with a big brush with face bronzer pearls.
10 mins
