Who else is enjoying their own off kilter style?

In other words being confident enough to wear things that you know might be out of date or a trend that has passed and doing it with intent?

I have enjoyed digging out my Baby Giselle bag knowing full well that it’s time has passed but carrying it feeling good.

I've been wearing wide leg/flared jeans since the 90s and now they are back in again :D

Most of my stuff is years old, so very out of date. I wear what I wear, I don’t buy in to trends. That said, it’s mostly jeans and Ts, but my last coat I’d had for a decade. I’d find it wasteful to constantly be buying the latest trend tbh.

I did attempt to buy some new trousers the other day. 10 minute wait for a fitting room and none of the 3 pairs I’d picked to try were long enough anyway so I gave up.

I think most people wear what suits them and don't slavishly follow trends tbh, and don't automatically ditch things that are no longer the latest thing. Though they might still fall for a new trend that catches their eye. I like bags, but I wouldn't notice which ones were on trend.

Have you heard of dopamine dressing? It's when you wear clothes because they make you feel good rather than because they follow any particular style, trend, code or rule. Not trying to be quirky, or off kilter, or in any way special. Just being your own happy self.

When I heard of it I went, oh yes, that's me. Cool.

Gettingbysomehow · 27/05/2025 08:12

I only wear what suits me regardless of what's in. Im loving the crochet top/dress trend though. I tried wide leg trousers and looked like a hobbit. You really need to be tall to pull them off.
My most detested style decade was the 80s, all the clothes looked like rubbish on me and were not my free boho style at all.

I dont think I have an off kilter style as such but it def isnt the style norm for where I live (its mostly leggings, joggers, t shirts and hoodies).
I will happily wear a posh dress to walk the dogs or go full goth for a trip to Sainsburys. My wardrobe is all pattern and colour.
I would of been lacking the confidence to do my own thing in my younger days but Ive found that over fifty Im a big fan of dopamine dressing!😄

"Off kilter" in the office I work in just means not wearing plain top/plain trousers/trainers.

JaneJeffer · 27/05/2025 16:18

I’m not tall and I love wide legged trousers 🤷🏻‍♀️

I still wear 4 inch stiletto heels on a night out. I also wear skinny jeans!
