I’ve had massive boobs since puberty and always hated them and think I’m finally ready to go ahead and have the surgery. I’m a size 10 with 32G breasts and after 2 pregnancy’s with weight fluctuations and years of breastfeeding they are worse than ever. I hate how they look, hate how heavy they are, hate the massive bras I need which are so so uncomfortable. All the work I do on myself by eating well and weight training means nothing as these massive things are so difficult to dress and just make me look so much bigger than I am.

anyway what I want to know if you have had the surgery…

how much did you pay? Did you pay it up in installments?

how was the recovery and pain? I have a 2 and 4 year old so worried about the practicality of picking up my little one, stopping them jumping on me etc. although I have a very supportive husband and my mum is amazing and would help as much as I needed as well.

are you happy with the results or do you regret it?

There was a phone-in on radio 2 about 20 mins ago about this. Have a listen on BBC Sounds.

I have had a breast reduction - but many many years ago (1994?), on the NHS. I was a size 10 at the time with (approx) 32HH or 32J boobs. I was in my twenties, hadn't had kids yet. They told me that they took about 1 lb off each breast and afterwards I think I was around a DD or E cup, which was a bit bigger than I wanted to be but because it was NHS I was told I couldn't specify the cup size i wanted to be! Anyway, as soon as I found a good bra fitting shop afterwards it was fine, I was able to find bras that were comfy and it freed me up to wear things I hadn't been able to wear up until then. I never regretted it at all. I don't remember the healing process being too bad/painful - but as i said, it's a long time ago now and I didn't have any children at the time. I don't think I was off work for very long, maybe only a week or two? I would say go for it. The scarring is minimal in my case and hidden underneath the breasts and you can't tell from looking at them that they have been reduced, they still look a natural shape. I was even able to breastfeed (a bit - I needed to supplement with formula because I didn't produce enough milk no matter how hard I tried - but all 3 kids had at least 3 months of my milk, supplemented with formula, which is good enough for me). Happy to answer any other questions if you want.

I can't help with experience, except to say that I'm in the same boat and hoping to do this myself in a year or two (need to lose weight first).
im so over the weight, the discomfort, the skin problems underneath in summer. I'm much older though, approaching retirement. I just can't stand the thought of putting up with this for the rest of my life now. I'm around a 34 GG/H.

Thank you so much for your reply it’s really helpful. That’s the other thing that concerns me. How long would I have to be off work. I’m a nurse in ICU so would definitely not be able to go back after a week or so. Would more likely be about 6 weeks from chatting to others. I’m not sure how that would go down with my work given that it’s an entirely elective cosmetic procedure.

thinking about it, I had my op just before Xmas, so maybe some of my recovery time was over the holiday period. So it might have been more than 1-2 weeks off work, but some of it was holiday. But I didn't have a particularly physical job, so i could go back before fully healed. I don't remember telling my manager what procedure I was having - I just said I needed an operation! Different times maybe!

I had a reduction ten years ago when I was skinny. Over the years as I have gained and lost weight they have grown back to an E or F cup but they are definitely less saggy than they would have been had I not had it done. I had a three year old at the time and was a single parent, I had to hire a nursery nurse to help me get DC to and from there and also my friends had to come round and wash my hair. Took 6 weeks to recover but I’m bad at recoveries.
