I've seen Denise Welch promoting this powder saying how good it is and wondered if it's genuine and really does work. It seems to get good reviews, but am curious if anyone has tried it with positive benefits. Thanks

I was wondering about it too.
I get joint pain and would like to know if it works .

Or is it just like the snake oil salesmen?

Collagen cannot be absorbed in its whole form. Collagen supplements like any other large protein will be broken down to amino acids in the gut. These will then be used by the body- but not necessarily to build collagen.
A protein rich diet should provide the necessary amino acids you need.
Also there is no evidence that taking these supplements can help target a specific area.
Some people say they feel better- maybe they do, just science wise it is a bit dodgy.

Thank you @Breadcat24 .
I do a lot of walking but in the summer I do hill walking with some very steep descents and my knees were unbearably painful.
I had been doing quads to strengthen an imbalance I had.
I did say to my husband I managed this walk fine last time. ( he said it was 9 years ago when we last did it)

Flaxseed is great for joints.

I’ve been taking elevate for almost 6 months. Hair and nails much stronger and growing faster. Skin looks better, no less wrinkly but smoother and more glowy.
Still get joint pain but I do think I am starting to experience shorter recovery times. Eg before I’d walk 10k and my hips would be really sore and still hurting for a couple of days. Now they still hurt at the time but the next day I’m ok. I’d sometimes be really achy the day after my yoga class too but now I usually feel ok. I’ve only noticed this in the last couple of weeks though so too early to say definitely.

(btw it tastes vile, don’t believe the adverts. It’s unbearably sweet, I mix it with kefir to be able to tolerate it)

That’s exactly what the skin surgeon says on the Liz Earle podcast @Breadcat24 he recommends a protein rich diet, says the powders are not proven. The more interesting bit was the benefits of Estrogel as a topical application to skin

AnneKipankitoo · 29/10/2025 10:31

Thank you @Rina66 . That podcast is very informative.

Ingesting collagen is unproven. Rings alarm bells that it's unbearably sweet, too - what is in it? I can't seem to easily see a full ingredients list on their site.

Breadcat24 · 29/10/2025 11:57

@Baninarama they have to put something in it to mask the taste. I work with groups doing research into protein and some of the things they ask me to try taste vile!!!
I also think it odd that there are so many posts on mumsnet about the horrors of UPF, and then people will consider taking these supplements that are the very definition of ultra processed

NeckHurting · 29/10/2025 12:09

My hairdresser recommended I take collagen. I am not going to take it until the research into any links between collagen and breast cancer is complete. I do not believe there is anything conclusive at the moment though.
