Can we discuss the fit of jeans because I’m STRUGGLING

I’m a size 8/10. Toned. My tummy is soft and the skin a little loose after pregnancy. I’m desperately seeking casual jeans I can wear every day, with the kids to the park, to meet friends, shopping - just casual staple jeans. I like straight leg styles, happy with wider too. I really like Levi’s 501s and 501 90s, and their 502 90s ankle style, too. I also tried the Sezane wide leg jeans and loved them - except my the sizing problem:
I’m struggling so much with fit! I’ve tried so many different sizes in so many different cuts and they’re all wrong to me. How do your jeans fit?! Because to me there’s only two options:
option 1: (usually an 8 or 10) the jeans fit me at the waist, and everywhere else, and look great when I stand up. But as soon as I sit down, my torso shortens and the skin on my stomach turns into a bulging muffin top, the jeans cut into me.
option 2: (when I go one size up - usually a 12) the jeans fit me at the waist when I sit down. No muffin top, no bulging. But when I stand up, they are too loose on my bum and thighs, they look baggy and shapeless and unflattering.

HELP A GAL OUT !!! I’m honestly at my wits end and don’t understand how jeans are meant to fit (first world problems I know 😝)

Denim is meant to be hard wearing and holding in the body and true denim isn't v comfortable.

Instead I wear denim with stretch which is less flattering but doesn't have the baggy/too tight depending on posture - I like the m&s Sienna's which I believe are straight leg

I would try a mid/ low rise
I think it depends on torso/ leg proportions
im long bodied with 28' legs so I find high rise fit me best.
i love my Levi 501's but im not sure if they are high or mid rise
Fat face " Sway" slim fit me perfectly too, but I like to wear a belt with those
Jeans are a minefield aren't they?!

@OublietteBravoSame here. It’s actually very hard to find low rise jeans nowadays - often even mid-rise are uncomfortably high.

Belt with the size 12s would sort OP.

@MoodSwingSet totally agree, the Halará jeans are amazing!!! So comfy and flattering!
And come in different leg lengths.

Fat Face jeans are great.

I think the cut of most UK clothes is awful

Either swamped in material or awful clingly skinny cuts

Whats wrong with a nice slim fit, cigarette type fit.

I wear belts OP to try to counteract the stupid waist band sometimes.

I also find most things too long.

I also hate stretch denim as all the lumps and bumps stick out.

Many Jean brands available in the UK aren’t UK brands though.

it all comes down to body proportions and butt size.

someone with a round full butt will find low rise pulls far to far down. Mid rise will sit on the like low rise.

someone with a very flat bottom will find mid or high rise uncomfortably high.

people with a long crotch to waist measurement will need a higher rise

people with a very short crotch to waist measurement will prefer a low rise.

someone with a flat bottom and short crotch to waist measurement will only look right in a low rise etc

Its so hard to find a comfortable jean, has anyone done the 2 hand thing were you measure if long or short torso, I did it. I fitted both hands in just above belly button, which it says make me long torso, but my waist which dips in a bit is higher than the belly button, and I'm petite so when I try a high waisted jeans they nearly hit my bra band, so how am I long waisted.

HolidayHappy123 · 24/05/2025 11:53

Reiss have a great selection which comes up with in petite.

In my experience the problem is high rise jeans. I with this trend would feck off. Unless you’ve got a completely flat stomach, they look ridiculous when you sit down. Look for mid rise with a high level of stretch (not the stiff jeans).
