Wedding Suit (for my husband!)

We’ve got a wedding coming up in July and another one next April. My husband wants to buy a new suit which he plans to wear at both of the weddings - as guests, not as a groom!

He hasn’t worn one for many years, back in the days when it was expected to wear one in the office, although he’s now retired. There are no tailors near us and even M&S doesn’t stock suits. We live in a small town with hardly any decent stores so would probably have to travel up to a couple of hours if not buying online.

What kind of suits are men wearing these days (Waistcoat? Single breasted? Which colours?) I have to be honest as I’ve never been a fan of say, a blue or black suit with brown shoes - is this still a thing?

Where are men getting their suits from these days? (He definitely wouldn’t want one in polyester, definitely leans towards wool or a mostly wool-mix).

He’s currently on a diet so wants to leave it almost up until the last minute before purchasing! Btw renting one isn’t really a feasible option.

Have a look in Next as their men’s range still includes suits and formal shirts and ties. Either that or if you have a John Lewis within travelling distance then they are good too. Browsing will give you both an idea of what is current styling. I hope that helps.

If you have an M&S near to you, it is probably possible to order a suit there. Their online ordering is not expected to be back up and running until July which may be too late for your requirements. DH bought a wool mix tux from M&S last year & it is well made & fits perfectly. It was also reasonably priced.
whether your DH goes for a 2 or 3 piece is a matter of personal preference.

Moss Bros were really good when my DH needed a suit, he's really not a suit person either. The shop assistant was lovely, advising him on different styles and cuts etc.

My husband bought the suit he got married in from the House of Cavani, he got the burgundy textured tux and then got it in navy too. He bought the navy and burgundy brogues to match either and he’s worn both to other weddings, black tie events, fancy sporting events, in all seasons and changes the shirt, tie/bow tie combo to suit. He also has their 3 piece tweed suits, the navy Torino and tropez suits are lovely, as are the Albert tweed ones. Excellent customer service too.

I am as single as they come and a female… but my ex (a year ago) got a lovely one from Next. I would get a next account if you can and then order a few to try and just easily send back what you don’t want ☺️

Friend's hubby needed new suits for a new job so she got him a couple from Next - really quite nice. A nice waistcoat is good for weddings if he's given to that sort of thing and definitely black shoes with a blue or black suit! I'm with you - think brown shoes look naff!

Absolutely Next! My DS is going to a wedding as a guest and one one as a groomsman, both suits came from Next. Great range, quality and excellent value!

Have you a Boundary Mill near you. My husband bought a cream linen suit including a waistcoat for about £90. He’s worn it to three weddings and it looks great. For the more informal wedding he wore it with a white collarless linen shirt from M and S.

Go to Slaters if there is one near you. They have a fantastic selection and have fitters who help you find a suitable suit that fits properly

Zara is really nice for the single breast tapered leg look. Also John Lewis if you have one near you as they have different brands.

Slaters every time. I will never forget walking into Slaters Glasgow with my 6’6” son - skinny at the time. One of the assistants clocked us walking into Slaters Glasgow, put his hand into a rack and handed us the perfect suit.
