What to wear on British Pullman train?

This might be in the wrong section as I’m more worried about being dressed appropriately than stylishly. In an ideal world I’d manage both!

Anyone been on the Pullman? Obviously I’ve read the dress code so know the rules, but want to know how passengers tend to actually interpret them. It says formal attire is encouraged but we’ll be doing a tour of Highclere castle half way through so can’t imagine I’ll want to be wearing high heels and a fascinator!

Any advice/experience appreciated.

Why would you (or anyone for that matter) be wearing a fascinator? 😬

No sportswear, particularly trainers and shorts. Nothing casual, so no jeans or anything denim. Think smarter than smart casual. For men, proper clothing - so a suit, usually dark worsted wool, or else trousers, a nice shirt and lace-up shoes. For ladies, again, something elegant. This does not mean you need to wear heels or evening wear.

If you're really stuck, and to get a better idea, look at Instagram and tagged posts for Pullman.

How exciting! That'll be lovely. I think this is one of the rare occasions that it's easier for women than men. I'd go for a long dress with a smart blazer/cashmere cardigan and either smart ballet flats or boots.

I don't think heels and hats are needed. Think posh afternoon tea instead if day at the races.

Off to Google Pullman...

Judging from the website, it's formal wear. Gloves extra bonus.

I pass people boarding the pullman all the time on my commute. Most people look like they're going to a wedding and get really dressed up, men in suits, women in dresses etc. I have seen people less formally dressed in trousers, blouses, but nothing you could describe as casual.

If it were me I'd go smart but comfortable. You will be siting on a train after all.

Part of the fun is dressing up a bit. The sort of clothes you might wear to a wedding. I took a pair of comfy flats in as bag to change into for walking around in between the 2 journeys.

I was joking about the fascinator!

Taking flats to change into is a good idea, thanks.

Ok, sounds like I need to get my head into wedding guest mode rather than just relying on adding a blazer and jewellery to smarten myself up.
