Warm hair and eyes but cool-toned skin?

I had my "colours done" a while ago and was told I was "an Autumn" - this mad sense as I have green/Hazel eyes and my natural hair colour is a warm mousey brown. However, my veins clearly look blue rather than green (meant to be a sign of being cool-toned), my skin can sometimes have a blue/purple tinge, and make-up colours meant to be good for Autumns look horribly orange on me. Has anyone else found this? I don't slavishly follow colour rules but this has left me puzzled about colours to aim for!

Veins are a red herring I think. If autumn make up looks awful on you I would wonder if you have been diagnosed correctly as an autumn?

I have green eyes, chestnut hair and green veins. I tan really easily ( olive skin) and I’m a Summer,

How were they done? In person? Where are you getting the make up from?

Do you look good on orange based red lipstick I.e. geranium?

Could you be a neutral skin tone? Did they just say "autumn"? Because autumns can be split into three categories; dark, true and soft. I am a dark autumn (warm hair and eyes) but my skin is neutral can look cool or warm depending on the light. I tend use the warmer colours from dark winter and the cooler colours of dark autumn. I think based on your description you are unlikely to be a "true" autumn as they are very warm in appearance. I think you are most likely to be a soft autumn but you can also borrow colours from the season next to you if you are leaning on the cooler side so you may be able to borrow colours from soft spring.

It's irritating when you aren't clearly one season.

I used to be very clearly winter, very pale blue toned skin, ice blue eyes, quite dark cool brown hair - was so easy! Now my hair has faded to a mid chestnut and whilst still cool my skins not as alabaster. I now don't have the contrast I used to and soft summer suits me better, edging into autumn at the height of summer when my skins tanned and my hair goes more golden.

So I'd forget about fitting clearly into a category if you don't, just be aware of what really doesn't work for you and your level of contrast. Photo yourself in all your clothes and see what works.

I'm neutral, warm skin and hair but cool eyes. I just wear colours I like.

Jasmin71 · 21/05/2025 10:39

You are probably a Soft Summer. It's right next to autumn. Think Jennifer Aniston ish.

Greenteaandbiscuits · 21/05/2025 10:57

My colour palette shifts from warm spring to cool summer depending on my hair colour. I have blue viens and cool blue eyes, but freckles and a pinkish tone, red hair brings out the freckles and pink and swings me to a warm, whereas blonde cools my skin and highlights the cool eyes and puts my pallette on cool summer. I used chatgpt to get a combined pallette that gave me colours that lend themselves to both pallettes!

Its never something I stick to religiously but it's nice to have in mind when choosing clothes

Totally misses point of post 😂😂😂😂
I literally have no idea about my colours or seasons what I do know though is when your in the correct colours u seem to blend and I hate that I like to have contrast and clash I like what I like ❤️ x

The"soft, true and dark" designations in seasonal colour analysis are more to do with the levels of contrast between skin, hair and eyes. I'm a soft autumn, my eyes hair and skin are all at the same level of contrast, as in very little.
I blend together - that's why I look shite in certain colours of beige, it's too close to my overall look. If you used greyscale on a photo of me you would see very little contrast.

Whereas a dark autumn will still suit autumn colours but with more contrast between eyes, hair and skin. So darker auburn or brown hair, light skin but darker eyes. In a greyscale photo you would see a clear contrast between skin, hair and eyes.

We are both autumn but at different ends of the scale. I can lean into the softer, greyer colours of soft summer but I would look awful in the darker more wintery shades.

For the person who wants contrast - there's nothing wrong with that. You can use contrasting colours from outside your palette to emphasise a feature. For example using a bright lipstick when the rest of your makeup is softer. However if you take it too far, you can look as if your clothes are wearing you rather than the other way round. I frequently use complementary colours in my palette, pink with burgundy, blue with orange. The colours pop but I look stylish because they are the appropriate colours for me.
