Reversing peri hair loss

Brushing my hair this morning and I'm so pleased with it, thought I'd share in case it helps other ladies (realising all hair loss is individual). I've had thinning hair, especially around the temples and my parting for a few tears where I was getting very self conscious about it. So in Jan I started changing my routine:

  • I take a multivitamin and separate collegen, biotin and iron supplements.

  • I soak my scalp in rosemary oil (I started with tea tree which worked, but I think rosemary is better) for a couple of hours once a week. I tend to do it on a Sunday morning whilst I'm doing the weekend clean up. Then double cleanse and hair mask.

*I use a natural bristle hair brush - amazing difference

*I sleep on a silk pillow case (I started with a silk bonnet which works brilliantly if you can keep the damp thing on. I can't!)

*I only use silk (started with satin but silk worth the investment) hair ties. And don't pull my hair if wearing it tied up.

Things I'm not sure of but carried on
*scalp serum. I don't use them all the time as they can leave the hair a bit 'sticky'
*NMN supplement (only been using since I read about it on here so too early to tell!)

Didn't work for me
*scalp exfoliant. To messy and time consuming.
*any of the gimmicky hair waters, bond strengtheners etc. Might go back to them but you just need the basics.

I always now also use a heat protectant spray but not much else in terms of styling as my hair looks so much healthier I don't really need much styling.

I've also slowly gone from washing my hair every day to twice a week. I think because my scalp is in a much better condition it enables me to do this. I could probably go longer now tbh.

Less effort than it sounds writing it all down here! Anyway, just thought I'd share as nearly 6 months on I love my hair again :)

Sorry not sure what's going on with the formatting! Hopefully still readable!

Are you eating a good varied diet? Eating enough and not underweight? just saying as i noticed when I eat better my hair is always thicker.

Interesting to hear your results, glad it's helped you!

I also started the same journey at the same time as you, for similar reasons, quite bad thinning around temples, hair just doesnt want to grow, wanting healthier, shinier hair.

For me the main things have been making sure I have all the vitamins and minerals daily that my macros say I should have. In my case that is iron tablets, vitamin d3, biotin and I also take collagen peptides in my morning coffee but theres no link between hair health and collagen - more for joint pain (it works very well for that). Since january I have between 1-2 inches of new hair around my hairline and it's a very noticeable difference.

I also find raw cold pressed coconut oil massaged into the scalp promotes fast hair growth. I also have a mulberry silk pillowcase.

Diet is also important, I switched to a diet that promotes increasing blood circulation. This includes oily fish, spinach, beetroot (I drink beetroot juice), eggs, dark and leafy veg, eggs, almond milk instead of cows, berries and citrus fruit and using ginger, turmeric, and cayenne pepper. I also increased exercise to increase blood flow. I believe this has all helped.

I do think premium haircare helps too specifically for caring for existing hair, but your diet, exercise and supplements are the foundations for hair growth.
