Do I get the longest thread title award?

I have 2 months to get to a size 12 (am currently a 14 but have lost a stone on WW) Norks: good
Arms: Prefer upperarm coverage
Legs: prefer to keep knees hidden as have a mahoosive scar (even dermablend won't touch it)

A v neck burkha is all I can think of

I don't know HOW dressy these things are !

Ta muchly if anyone has read this !

sounds like standard summer henley/races/wedding type wear

ie you could get away with anything from a cotton sundress and pretty shoes up to and including a full-on mother-of-the-bride suit

Phase Eight is a good place to try, also Hobbs and, of course, Monsoon

DumbledoresGirl · 20/05/2008 10:05

Ear muffs.

My brother was invited to watch the Grand Prix in China once and said it was impossible to hear what anyone said as all you could hear was the constant roar of engines.

Have fun!

sagacious · 20/05/2008 10:42

Thanks Mrs B (and Dumbledores girl duly noted about the noise!)

I think that extreme level of noise is a quirk of the Shanghai track DDG. DD jumped like a crazy thing in utero at the GP last year, cue husband wanting to call her Louisa Hamilton Ourlastname. Er, no, not for any baby that comes out of my fanny, matey.

I would suggest trousers rather than a skirt just in case you're trotting up and down bleachers or slatted stairs all day. It can also be a bit grimy so I would also suggest leaving the ivory silk for another day.

You may be able to rent pit radios. For some reason this is not publicised (at least at the Shanghai GP) but if you find out ahead of time and organise one all the men will think you are a Goddess of Cool.

muggglewump · 20/05/2008 11:03

No idea, I just wanted to say how jealous I am.
My GP experience had me sitting on a wet, muddy hill drinking warm beer that some welsh guys gave me. One of the best days ever, and yes it is really loud.

freerunner · 04/06/2008 08:46

Oh, me too! I'm going to be in a hospitality suite quaffing champagne all weekend... I shall be wearing a Ferrari T-shirt and shorts

Furball · 04/06/2008 08:50

top tip - take ear plugs - you can get packs of 10 for a couple of quid in B & Q. The noise is literally deafening!

I don't know but if me would wear a smart trouser suit with shoes that I can walk in, so a lowish heal.

Tutter · 04/06/2008 08:52

ah, mrsbee you make it sound so easy

op - did it really state "decent" on the invite?

Furball · 04/06/2008 08:52

oops meant heel!

mylovelymonster · 04/06/2008 08:58

OOOh am so jealous. I would wear a lovely chic summer outfit. Something beautifully cut in a soft linen/cotton mix so as to avoid unsightly wrinkles. A lovely dress and co-ordinating 3/4 sleeve jacket maybe?

Can I come?

Have a lovely time. Hope Lewis or Jenson win

mylovelymonster · 04/06/2008 09:02

Get dress/skirt length to just below knee to deal with your phobia - and will leave most slim & shapely part of your leg on show. A little jacket will cover upper arms. 3/4 sleeve will expose slimmest part of arm (wrist) and is very chic. If you're worried about your not- perfect bod (no-one has a perfect bod ) - then go for gentle tailoring.

Will have a quick look for ideas........

SheherazadetheGoat · 04/06/2008 09:03

i would go all daisy duke, gingham shirt tied up over midriff, denim hotpants adn a cheeky grin.

mylovelymonster · 04/06/2008 09:10

Potential for jackets here. I know it's CC, but not all there stuff is old-lady-ish. Some very pretty colours - soft greens/blues/pinks/reds - and deep V great for a shape with good boobs.

mylovelymonster · 04/06/2008 09:13

You could co-ordinate a jacket with a summer frock/skirt you already have and love for instant ocassionwear......

MrsBadger · 04/06/2008 10:07

gone off the idea of a short sleeved jacket, eh tutter?

Coast do lovely summer stuff.

freerunner · 04/06/2008 10:13

I'm not getting dressed up at all. Hopefully it will be hot (I usually get sunburnt at Silverstone) so I'm sticking with shorts and T-shirt. This will be my first year in a hospitality suite though, I hope I'm not going to be too under-dressed!

cupsoftea · 04/06/2008 10:16

Wow - sounds super. Laura ashley?

cupsoftea · 04/06/2008 10:21

www.lauraashley.com/invt/ms622citronp&bklist= with one of their tops

edam · 04/06/2008 10:33

If it's anything to do with Formula 1, surely a Nazi uniform would help you to blend in with the top brass?

Enid · 04/06/2008 11:55

not that dressy

quite glam

I have been many times (yawn)

If I were going this year I would wear white trousers, wedgey sandals and pretty top, maybe pale grey cotton blazer and BIG SUNGLASSES together with Sloane Hair.

MrsBadger · 04/06/2008 12:08

am presuming Sloane Hair is one stop further up the Kings' Rd from Sloane Square...

MissingMyHeels · 04/06/2008 12:12

I have been to a GP - not British - and wore white skinny jeans, silky pretty top, high shoes and big sunnies (as Enid says - these are essential!).

Do you know what sort of things the people you're going with will be wearing? I think it's more important to dress to fit in with your immediate group than the event iyswim?
