Join me in a wardrobe sort out?

Charity bag at the ready!

Rail for things to be sold?

Hoover and damp duster to get right to the back for a through sweep.

Should I get everything out, do section by section, or just smash and grab the easy ones to get rid of first (which will be the least overwhelming and messy).

I’ve just done the fridge this morning too. Husband has fear in his eyes and barred me from touching his wardrobe lol.

I need to do this but struggling to find the motivation. I’ve just booked a week away with the dc and I need spending money so I need to hit vinted hard (and try not to spend on more clothes). Also need to throw a lot away. My wardrobe and 2 chest of drawers are full yet I have nothing to wear.

ThatAgileMintBiscuit · 17/05/2025 12:19

Great Post.

I've wanted to do this the last few weekends and can't find the motivation. Your post has given me a bit of umpth!

Will make a brew and head upstairs to join you.

Will make a charity bag and a sales pile for Vinted.

I may go through make up etc too.

Brogues · 17/05/2025 12:22

Absolutely - full wardrobes but nothing wear!

I pulled out some cropped jeans from last summer and they just looked the wrong this year. It’s cold here today so I put on a v neck cashmere jumper with a racer backed vest underneath and it looks fresh so need to plan out some more looks. Also looking for a short sleeved open knit jumper similar to what’s in the shops this season that would look great with some summer trousers if only I could find it!

Oof makeup and skincare is also on my list but I’m almost on top of this after my last spree. I’ve passed on opened stuff on local free sites before. I get loads of people asking because it’s not always in people’s budgets to buy skincare.

Two bags full for charity. Summer dresses out of storage. Gone through jeans and put some in storage. A couple of bits and a lot of shoes for resale.

Still got summer tops to go through. They’ll swap with the chunky winter jumpers.

I am doing this right now! Vinted pile and charity pile. So cathartic.

RabbitsRock · 17/05/2025 14:34

Desperately need to clear out my wardrobe! It’s on my decluttering list when my broken arm heals.

MidnightMeltdown · 17/05/2025 14:48

I’ve been doing this over the past couple of weeks! Two bags gone to charity - another one ready to go! Sold about £200 worth on eBay/vinted and have a pile of stuff still to list. Haven’t had a proper wardrobe clear out/refresh in ages so it was very much needed. I seem to have lots of the going out fluff in my wardrobe and not enough good everyday basics. Still need to go though the shoes…

shuffleofftobuffalo · 17/05/2025 14:57

I did this a couple of weeks ago ago, I’m always astounded that firstly there is always SO MUCH to go to charity (I can’t be bothered selling) and secondly the wardrobe never looks any emptier afterwards.

I’m a fan of pulling everything out and going through the pile.

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME · 17/05/2025 14:58

Did this at the beginning of the year. My style / life has changed due to early retirement. I dumped everything out on the bed, tried it all on in front of a mirror and enlisted DH, who is a good second honest opinion! I bagged and donated quickly, and even got ruthless with shoes, so not worn last year, then they went too. Much easier to dress, all fits, all in good repair. I have bought one co-ord this year and that had to be able to work with other items already in my wardrobe to stay. Smile at my wardrobe now 😃

Newmeagain · 17/05/2025 17:36

I just took two large bags of clothes to the charity chop near me!

I was recently thinking that I need to buy some more coat hangers - now I actually have some free ones. I think I still have things I am not going to wear but I find that for me it has to be a gradual process.

lindyloo57 · 17/05/2025 17:50

I've got 3 bags to go to charity, my problem is because they are in the spare bedroom I keep looking in the bag and taking things out , my thinking it will do for the garden/ decorating etc, I've things on ebay but I haven't sold anything since the winter, when I sell more, I think I might as well take them to charity shop too, some were on ebay last summer, I suppose if they didn't sell them they won't sell this summer.

Bluenose1966 · 17/05/2025 18:03

@Brogues A work in progress for me as well, but so time consuming as I have far too much. I now have 4 bags ready for the charity shop after weight loss yet still have loads in wardrobe as have been on Vinted spending spree over last few months. I also have about 30 items in the spare room wardrobe to list on Vinted when I can get around to it.

@lindyloo57 I stopped selling on eBay a few months ago as not selling. Started listing on Vinted and most sold immediately, plus now realise Vinted is far easier and quicker to use than eBay for selling.

Fishwiife · 18/05/2025 07:27

I had an appointment with a personal stylist, just for colours but it was really helpful….

  • if it fits fine but is never quite right then the tone or colour is probably wrong for you
  • anything too small is going to make you feel bad so it needs to go
  • anything that doesn’t fit right (the camel trousers that add bulk)
  • Only make a bag to sell if you will actually sell (my problem)
  • charity bag goes in the back of the car and rides around until someone finds a shop or charity bin

i did a test first of removing everything from my wardrobe that wasn’t right, it looks quite empty now but getting ready is easier and I can see where I need items to make it work

Mikart · 18/05/2025 08:19

I declutter regularly but we downsized last year so I am now down to one and a half wardrobes. Retiring fully at Xmas so I won't be buying any new work clothes in autumn that I can't wear every day in 2026.
I took 30 items to the charity shop yesterday of things I haven't worn for 2 years.

I agree, vinted is so much easier than eBay, most things sell pretty quickly and posting is so easy (I use Evri and print labels at my local garage). I’ve sold loads on vinted.

I am going to have a huge clear out this week as I can’t move in my bedroom and DD’s room. DD is back from uni in a few weeks and will be bringing stuff back with her that I need to find space for.

Vinted and eBay seem to have slightly different markets. Sometimes I have something listed on eBay for months with no interest and when I list on Vinted it sells immediately. Likewise, some things that I sell on eBay get no interest on Vinted. I haven’t quite figured it out yet!

It surprises me that Vinted is more popular with shoppers as the buyer protection isn’t as good as on eBay. However I can see why that’s a good thing for sellers!

lindyloo57 · 18/05/2025 14:26

I've only ever used ebay for selling, is vinted as easy, I don't have a printer.

You don’t need a printer if you use Evri, you can print at the drop off point (they have little machines, you scan a QR code and it prints the label). You can do the same with Royal Mail too.

Brogues · 18/05/2025 20:20

Tops sorted out today. My drawers now close without having to shove and it means I can see much better what tops I have (and it’s still a lot considering I took so many out).

Undies still to do and some ironing and hanging of summer stuff that I dug out but the final stretch will have to wait until next weekend now.

I was going to list on eBay first because that’s all I’ve used previously but I’ll bear vinted in mind if nothing is shifting.

I’ve got some bags to let go too but every time I get them out I coo over how nice they are and don’t end up putting any up for sale.

I’ve sold 4 items on eBay this weekend and 3 on Vinted, so eBay is winning atm! Vinted seems to be good for selling the higher end, popular brands like Sézane, whereas I seem to find that lower end stuff does better on eBay.
