Shopping my wardrobe - how best to do it?

I have lots of clothes I love but seem to end up wearing the same things most days. I’d like to ring the changes; but how? Do I need to set aside lots of time to try on everything and work out outfits? Is there a more efficient way of doing it that doesn’t involve struggling in and out of loads of clothes and having to keep looking at myself in the mirror? I would appreciate any suggestions.

I lay clothes on the bed. Make combinations of various tops and bottoms, shoes, bags, belts etc, I photograph it for inspiration when I’m going somewhere and need fresh ideas.
I do the same photo with day outfits, ‘fancy day’ (out for lunch etc), evening, work and occasion(wedding, party etc).

It helps for shopping too so you don’t buy things you don’t need(or already have. N my case it’s t shirts).
Enjoy!

Thank you. I shall give this a go. At least no undressing is required.

Do you find that this deals with the vexed issue of proportions? This is the thing that makes the most difference, in my opinion, to the success or otherwise, of my outfits. I am very short, with a short waist, and struggle to balance this.

I think the key to proportions is really knowing what suits you. I’m taller so if I do high waisted wide trousers, with heels (think Victoria Beckham style), I look like a stilt walker! But on someone petite, that would work I think?Tucking the front of your top in stops you getting cut in half visually.
Try laying things out as you’d wear them, belt the dresses for example.
Jo Elvin on Instagram does what she calls her week on a wall, where she plans her outfits for the week, styled almost as if she was wearing them.

Alyssa Beltempo on YouTube does a lot of Shop you Closet videos (she's Italian-Canadian). Also, lots of re-imagining of fashion/social media outfits using her own clothes creatively.

I use a clothing app - Whering.
You can use it to make lookbooks for different times of the year, mood boards for inspiration & make up online outfits. It does take time listing all your clothing items to begin with but I've found it incredibly useful.
I used to forget what I've got. I counted over 15 blue shirts in my wardrobe the other day. Now I can shop from my wardrobe & devise new ways of wearing my clothes.

Thank you all.

@Cantonet I will investigate Whering. My wardrobe is quite diverse, which is both good and bad, as it means that I need to work harder to find partners for my separates. But this is the whole purpose of this thread so onward!

@GellerYeller Thanks for the Instagram suggestion. I think I know what suits me, but there is a discrepancy between this (plain, neat, fitted) and what I like (bright, interesting shapes, spacious) and I struggle to reconcile these.

@quirkychick I will look at Alyssa Beltempo. She sounds really interesting.
