I can't help I'm afraid, but will bump for you!

I am trying to be a bit more stylish but I'm not very skilled at it... I've never worn make up my skin care rouine consists of water, soap and vaseline and I have no money or time for clothes shopping so end up buying shite clothes from Asda when doing the food shopping. I will watch with interest in case there are any tips forthcoming.

RedFraggle · 20/05/2008 10:32

routine, obviously [gah]

TeaDr1nker · 20/05/2008 10:34

a slick of mascara and lip gloss - i would suggest putting eyeshadow etc etc, but i guess a good place to start would be with those two, and maybe a hint of blusher

hattyyellow · 20/05/2008 10:36

The yummiest mummy I know gets up at 5.30 when her husband leaves for work, just to start getting ready. I don't think I could be bothered to do that.

foxythesnowfox · 20/05/2008 10:39

I thought if you had a Boden coat you were technically a Yummy Mummy?

I wear wedges as a good comprimise to heels, and still make me feel like a grown-up without tottering.

Mascara and lip gloss every day.

One night a week to 'groom'. After kids are in bed, I take myself off to wash/straighten my hair, de-fuzz, exfoliate, moisturise (blob of fake tan in your body moisturiser).

I buy my clothes from the same shops as you. I still look like a bag o'shite quite often, but I don't feel like one so much

amner · 20/05/2008 10:40

Clean hair, smell nice all the time.

Smile, slick of vaseline on the lips.

All inexpensive and easy to achieve

5.30 to get ready .... she must need some serious help

DarthVader · 20/05/2008 13:24

To be a yummy mummy you need

  1. A huge income
  2. Staff to take care of the house and kids
  3. Utter Obsession with your own appearance and vast amounts of time for treatments, personal trainer and personal shopper
TheFallenMadonna · 20/05/2008 13:26

I think Lisa B has written a book about it. Apparently having a gym in your home is incredibly useful...

OrmIrian · 20/05/2008 13:27

Cover yourself in chocolate spread.

TheProvincialLady · 20/05/2008 13:28

Perfume is a good one. Also, brush your hair frequently and always be checking your shoulders/knee area for sticky marks.

MrsBadger · 20/05/2008 13:30

[drags General Style Guidance from drawer]

no trainers
no fleece
no sportswear unless doing sport
no scrunchies
good bag
good shoes
clean hair
good haircut

Vivace · 20/05/2008 13:39

Wear a dress, wear colours not just black/beige/grey, pick slightly noticeable accessories (coloured shoes, necklace, nice scarf in winter etc) wear heels sometimes, put on makeup, have a decent haircut.

OverMyDeadBody · 20/05/2008 13:43

Don't aspire to be a yummy mummy , aspire instead to be a stylish well groomed lady. Hang out on the style and beauty boards to pick up good tips.

Make sure you wear cothes that fit and suit your body type and shape. Clean hair, minimal make-up.

OverMyDeadBody · 20/05/2008 13:43

and what MrsBadger said.

JackieNo · 20/05/2008 13:45

Have a bit of a go through your wardrobe, and work out some outfits that make you feel/look good - make a mental note (maybe even write it down, if you think you won't remember). Then you don't need to think about it again - you know that you if you're pushed for time you can pick that pair of jeans, and wear them with that top and those boots (or whatever), and it will work. And accessories - depending on the age of your DC, necklaces good.

SwissCheese · 20/05/2008 13:50

Reading this I think I'm on the verge of being a Yummy Mummy but have just wobbled on the kerbside in my colourful heels...

Someone told me to use accessories: earrings, bracelets, necklace etc add some lip gloss and mascara then walk tall and with confidence. I walk tall and with confidence in worn out wellingtons most days; the effort is wasted on the wildlife but I feel good .

davidtennantsmistress · 20/05/2008 16:04

ooh I go out for the day n look what happens! lol.

thanks girls, don't have time to sit n read it all now but will do when DS is in bed thou.

I need a huge income? (do I have to have that! lol - have no hope of getting it in the next 5 years!)

seriously hatty - ooh no can't do that! i'll have half hour max in the am to get ready. but want to look stunning! (you know the mares we all hate out of the glossy's lol)

foxy -is that the key then not feeling like one? should have said I already do do the mascara and eyeshadow but not blush/gloss.

ok don't do scrunchies but do do black bands should i not? hair needs help right now is being cut next week but not sure on style. is normally tied back of late.

purfume haven't brought any in years - does impluse count? lol.

omdb - how do i find out what suits my shape? i'm, normally jeans, top n boots or cloggs sort of a girl trainers when dog walking thou.

accessories - don't normally do those. but am in favour of being a stylish and sophisticated lady in nice clothes/feeling good.

Get a nanny then spend all the time on yourself?
I believe its in the genes and i wasn't born with them I'm a real no hoper , no chance with me.

davidtennantsmistress · 20/05/2008 16:39

nanny - I wonder! lol. na it's not me that - i'm a 'lady what lunches' not a lady 'who' lunches! lol.

wasn't born with the genes either - was born with the thunder thighs and short legs thou!

I look at netaporter.com and check out their outfits for ideas (always way out of my price range), print out my favourite ones then take them to primark etc to find the closest matching things. Seems to work - I was at a club once and had a guy telling me my skirt was designer as he "knows couture when he sees it". The skirt was from Warehouse

naughtymummy · 20/05/2008 17:19

Skirts and boots instead of jeans ? DH and I give each other 20 minutes each in the morning while the other has the DCs. So can choose clothes in peace, shower, remember to put on make up, perfume and earings if appropriate. This seems to help. I go clothes shopping without Dcs once a month. DH gives me my xmas present in vouchers for shops that he knows I love and this lasts me most of the year with top-ups from primark etc. Try asking for clothing vouchers for birthday or xmas. How old are your dcs ?

Anna8888 · 20/05/2008 17:22

Sort your wardrobe - chuck out anything that isn't yummy, and sort the rest into outfits so that you can get dressed very quickly and look nice without having to think about it in the morning.

YeahBut · 20/05/2008 17:26

The thing that made the most difference for me was taking 5 minutes before going to bed to look out what I want to wear the next day. No scrabbling round looking for a clean bra or top or a pair of socks just before breakfast! I always seem to look more together, too. And I don't have to get up at 5.30am.
Identify your body shape and what styles suit you. Weed out your wardrobe - give away anything that's scruffy or unflattering then there's no chance that you'll end up wearing it!
