Massive sunglasses

I'm not a big sunglasses wearer but I'm going abroad for the first time in 8 years and I'd like to treat myself to some nice ones. I like the oversized ones, the bigger the better, as I think these suit me best. Can anyone recommend a good brand with a few shapes to try. Budget around £200. Thanks.

Have a look at Pretavoir, they’re an online optician that sell loads of designer brands. My Chanel sunglasses were £100 cheaper from there than Chanel’s website. They also have a digital try on tool that is slightly addictive

asparagusffern · 14/05/2025 21:29

I love sunglasses and have lots from Chanel and to Primark. I have to say that the Chanel pair were a fantastic investment. They must be at least 10 years old and look as good as new. Crucially though the quality of the lenses is excellent, they are polarising and crystal clear.

I think sunglasses are something you can't buy online, you really need to try them on. If you can get to a decent sized department store have a good try on of every shape. I'd stick to the classics, mine are slightly oval, black frames that will never date.

GoldDuster · 14/05/2025 21:38

Gucci, likely be able to browse a decent range at a main airport and will have change from £200 for a lipstick.

Where are you located?

Love Jackie ohs, especially my white framed pair which feel so glamorous! Also have Tiffany and gucci pairs and love them too. I buy a nice pair maybe every 3 years to add to my collection, and wear sunglasses every day, so a worthwhile investment.

Also really like the Quay sunglasses at the cheap end - Ever After is a really nice oversized shape.

BeretRaspberry · 14/05/2025 21:46

Now I want some of the Ray Ban Jackie Ohhs…..

OvaHere · 14/05/2025 21:53

Are you going abroad soon OP? One of the best places to buy designer sunglasses is at the airport. The bigger ones like Heathrow, Manchester etc. usually have loads.

Edit. Sorry didn't read the OP properly, I see you are going abroad. So if you're flying try the airport.

GLC789 · 14/05/2025 22:01

Marc Jacobs will have some in your budget and oversized.

Also worth looking on vinted for gucci, prada. You may find a bargain!! And have epic massive sunny gs at a steal!!

JMSA · 14/05/2025 22:01

Gucci 👌

viking11 · 14/05/2025 22:02

Where are you located?

I'm in Manchester and flying from Manchester T2.

Thank you all for the suggestions. I didn't mean to cause mild controversy over the price of sunnies. I'm willing to pay anything from £1 to £200ish for something I like as this is going to be a rare treat to me from me. I've seen huge variety of prices online so the budget was really to help people to help me narrow it down.

I appreciate all replies and will enjoy looking.

I had some lovely over sized glasses, Tommy Hilfiger, I think they were called Nina Blue. I got them for around £60 in Tkmaxx, left them on the beach though, was gutted.

I agree. When I saw the title, I made the conscious decision to open the thread knowing that massive sunglasses might mean Celine or Chanel or some other pricey brand. It's a choice.

This is S&B, where we all come to relax and let off some stress and talk clothes and accessories.

FYI, I am just about to get some compensation from an accident, and go to Italy on holiday, and one thing I am planning on doing is dropping a sh!t tonne of dosh on a pair of sunnies in a gorgeous shop. Or a bag, not sure yet.

I don't spend a lot of money on clothes etc. and f*ck it, I am buying some fabulous bin lids.

Love this thank you. I didn't know what to call the thread really but massive sunglasses seemed to sum it up as that's my starting point.

I hope you find your dream sunnies!

mister Spex - I’ve ordered quite a few pairs from there ( they can be prescription or not), and usually on cashback sites.

Yep, I’ve ordered some!😁

SabrinaThwaite · 14/05/2025 23:22

Ray-Ban Wayfarers will never go out of style (although might not be as big as you would like?), you can shop around to get them for a good price. TKMaxx and Boots are worth a look for great budget options.

GreenFressia · 14/05/2025 23:28

I just got a pair from Accessorise 😄 That way I don't feel bad if I go off them in a few years. As I see sunglasses as something fun.

If was going designer for me it would have to be Raybans. Either tortoiseshell or red. Or both.

Why not have a serious pair and a fun pair?

GreenFressia · 14/05/2025 23:30

Red wayfarers would be on my lust list.

honeylulu · 14/05/2025 23:31

You could have a look at Optical King. There is a function which enables you to virtually "try on" the glasses by uploading a pic of yourself. I got some big sunnies from there (Michael Kors) which I love. They were about £120 though that was with prescription lenses.

I also got some Fitovers sunglasses as a second option, for wearing over my own glasses if I need to. They are big and glamorous and they are actually fine too wear on their own i.e. If I have contacts in.

Just a couple more suggestions for your search!

mdinbc · 15/05/2025 00:01

I agree that you should try on glasses before you buy. I treated myself last year in a Sunglass Hut, but ended up with a Vogue pair that were around 65 GBP. The ones I thought I wanted didn't really suit me once on.

Someone else here suggested getting a cheaper pair as well, then shopping at the duty free. All of your regular shops will have an accessories section.

Ok, don’t know so can’t recommend anywhere local. Enjoy your shopping, it’s fun treating yourself to things like that. X

I LOVE oversized sunglasses - Jackie Oh are a firm favourite of mine, I got a pair of Jackie Oh II in the sale, which I love even more. I also got a pair of Tommy Hilfiger ones from TK Maxx last year for £25 - so worth shopping around - good to have a cheaper beach pair!
