Leave in products for frizzy hair

My hair dries naturally very very frizzy. It has a decent curl to it but the frizz just makes it in unusable option.

Ive seen a few reels about using a leave in conditioner and a hair mousse to control the frizz. I’m not expecting the miracle results on these reels but thought it might be worth a try.

Has anyone got recommendations for products to try this with? Don’t want to spend too much at this stage.

Are you using gel whilst your hair is wet? If not, I would recommend that much more than a conditioner. If you have wavy or curly hair you need to get it to form into nice clumps whilst wet as any stray hairs will just look like random frizz.

I highly recommend trying the Merwave system if you have wavy hair, and Only Curls is good if your hair is more curly.

Not mousse! Silk bonnet to sleep in, Sls and sulphate free shampoo, leave in conditioner. Good brands are As I Am, Beauty Works, Mielle Organics.

Mousse works well for some people. Curls/ frizzy hair differ so much from person to person. It’s a case of trial and error. I hear good things of the Colourwow antifrizz spray but haven’t tried it yet.

I'm loving Colour Wow Money Mist leave in conditioner and then once dry Colour Wow Pop and Lock.

I find that normal conditioner works as well as any of the more expensive products. Particular fan of the Aussie conditioner.

Aussie curl cream straight after you have washed it, and that does it for me, I leave it to dry naturally and no more frizz on my curls

I'm getting great results from Cantu at the moment, which is not expensive at all compared to some curl ranges. I do find I have to swap in and out though, and have used quite a few in the past! I also bought the Aldi ColourWow spray dupe last week to try out but found the spray a bit tricky when I tried to use it this morning - it's £4.99 though so worth a try too.

What works for me is using products whilst the hair is still very wet. Literally 30 seconds wrapped in a towel is perhaps too much. I scrunch with a curl cream and then a curl gel or similar - the hair should be wet enough to hear a “squelch” when you scrunch. Then LEAVE IT ALONE. Let it dry naturally. Might be worth trying?

I use the only curls products and love them. Wash, conditioner & finish with the styling gel through wet hair, leave for a short time, then diffuser to dry.

I have curly hair that can sometimes be frizzy, especially where the grey is.

I used Umberto Giannini curl cream on it, which I apply when it’s pretty wet (so just gently towel dried). Works really well.

WinterNightStars · 15/05/2025 13:39

I found Wella Flowing Form works really well for my hair

BingoBling · 15/05/2025 13:53

I use Aussie curl cream also.

Previously spent a tenner on a pot of something that was like having an oil slick on the hair. Chucked it Away! Its a nightmare as there's so much choice and its hard to know where to start..

Hoolahoophop · 15/05/2025 13:58

If you just want to experiment. I would try a gel on very wet hair, finger brush it through to tame and gently squeeze the excess water out with an old t-shirt. Then leave it to dry naturally or gently diffuse. Experiment with how much you use too little and you will still frizz, too much and you will go sticky. Get it right and a quick scrunch when its fully dry to remove any crunchy bits and you are good to go.

If this work for you then research the curly girl method and fall down the rabbit hole of spending a fortune on products free from all sorts of nasties, waxes, silicones etc. that focus on getting moisture into the hair.

My go to gels are the Umberto Giannini Curl Jelly Scrunching Jelly and Cantu Define and Shine Custard. If I run out I use whatever my DH is currently using, which is usually Alberto Balsam gel for £1 from Tesco. Its not as curly friendly as the others but does the job.
