Can this be made more modest?!

I have found a dress to wear to a wedding later this summer. I struggle finding clothes that fit/suit so to find something that nearly ticks all the boxes is a surprise! However, this dress is far too low cut for my chest, is there any way to add a panel, or something, without it turning frumpy? Or do I need to go back to the drawing board?

I think that looks gorgeous and not too revealing. Make sure you have a good bra on so you feel well supported. You could add a nice statement necklace to it if it feels like a bit too much skin for your liking.

I would wear a plain black or white lacey bandeau top underneath it, or try and get one that matches the green colour. There are modesty panels on Amazon that clip onto your bra straps but they always seem a bit fiddly to me so I haven't tried them.

It doesn't look too revealing to me, it looks very pretty. But if you are not happy with it, would wearing a light scarf help you feel more comfortable?

PiggieWig · 13/05/2025 12:52

I think it’s lovely and not too showy off at all. You have a great figure! I agree that a necklace is all you need. Don’t frump it up with a panel.

VenusClapTrap · 13/05/2025 12:55

You just need a good plunge bra.

verycloakanddaggers · 13/05/2025 12:59

Just wear a vest or boob tube under it.

The word 'frumpy' is misogynistic claptrap, btw. Some people prefer a high neckline, some a low neckline.

I get it - I'd feel that was a bit low for me too. A plain vest top in a matching or slightly paler green would be my choice, but I've also gone with a smart scarf. Not sure the fabric would be forgiving of stitches...

If you Google modesty panel or cleavage cover there are little lacey things you can wear to add a little bit more coverage.

The dress is lovely. It fits you well.

Thank you all! I really like the colour and cut, I have a long torso and tummy which is a difficult combo to dress up! I’ve just messaged my “bra lady” to see if she might have something that will work with the cut. Otherwise I am planning simple, statement earrings and strappy sandals.

Yes I know it’s not a great term and hesitated to use it - I think what I was trying to ask was is there a way to cover the cleavage without spoiling the overall effect of the dress.

It would be easy to sew in a lace panel but as pp have said a lacey bandeau or camisole are also options.

However, I agree the right underwear and it would be lovely as it is.

StarlightLady · 13/05/2025 14:18

If you can find a bra that doesn’t show, or be confident with no bra, l think it will be fine. It’s not so low cut.

l don’t think a “conversion” or “cover up” job on the dress would work though. It would like exactly as if you’d had a problem with it.

MixedFeelingsNoFeelings · 13/05/2025 15:56

Agree, if you feel comfortable in a plunge bra, that would be a better solution than wearing a cami or modesty panel, which create an odd shape at the neckline. Ditto with 'putting in a stitch'.
It does seem to be a common issue, necklines being too low. Had to reject loads of dresses because of it.

Profhilodisaster · 13/05/2025 16:05

I'd go for a good bra and boob tape , a modesty panel might spoil the look.
