Oh great šŸ˜µā€šŸ’«
I’ve previously had my account fraudulently accessed, was assured it wouldn’t happen again.
One store I won’t be buying from online or in store if they can’t keep our data safe.

I was also thinking - I bet a lot of MP's and maybe even the Prime Minister, have M&S accounts! Surprised the politicians have been so quiet about it!

manywanderings · 15/05/2025 01:28

You know what's really annoying? I have always been so careful! Using a fake date of birth when signing up for things, and religiously either shredding envelopes with name and address on or using a black marker pen on boxes to blank out name and address before throwing them away! But I guess once you put stuff online ................All these companies say - your data is securely stored blah blah!

Although your name and address might be on the electoral register, it doesn't show your date of birth and email address as well. So less useful to fraudsters.

They probably couldn't even send a gift voucher by email in case people thought it was a scam šŸ˜‚

But yes it does show a kind of disdain for customers - who trusted them to be secure! It isn't their fault - but they had weaknesses somewhere for it to happen. I believe Harrods managed to block it.

Apparently the Co-op managed to stop it by switching off their IT system as soon as they spotted it. Still caused them a few issues though ie stock levels.

Empty shelves here! But we're rural. However it's a medium sized co op and the only supermarket for 10 miles ..........so not great having empty shelves.

I have had LOTS of spam/phishing emails in the last few days. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the M&S hack.

Pessimist · 17/05/2025 15:07

I actually haven't had any spam emails or calls - I'm bracing but nothing yet. šŸ¤”

My data has definitely been shared since the hack because scammer calls to my mobile have risen significantly since that point. It’s causing a real problem for me now.

I’m getting about 20 spam emails a day. Only had a few a week previously.

Zippedydodah · 17/05/2025 16:41

I’m getting 10 - 15 spam/telemarketing calls every day šŸ˜µā€šŸ’«Whaton earth is going on?

You could try something a friend of mine did with spam marketing calls. By saying "You are in a queue, your call will be answered shortly" then just put the phone down for a while and they go away šŸ˜‚They might give up then.

Zippedydodah · 17/05/2025 19:31

I’m ignoring them as my phone identifies spam and telemarketers and I’m blocking them, but it’s getting exasperating now!

My data was clearly taken as I've had a rapid increase in texts/phone calls from scammers in the last several weeks

Same here. Pretty much since they got hacked
