Any recommendations?

I’ve been using the no 7 ones for years but need something more hydrating now.

dont want to break the bank so something reasonably budget friendly.

i find by 4pm my face is so dry so want something that sits well under makeup and moisturiser.

the E45 serum keeps popping up but its got mixed reviews.

any advice?

So I had / have very dry skin, and only in the last year or so have it under control.

I started with Bramley Raspberry oil (£42) twice a day which is lovely; I'm currently using Lumene nordic C oil (£10 at boots on the £10 tuesdays). Both of those I finish with a normal moisturiser. You do need to let that sit for 2-3 before make-up.

In winter I also use Nip fab hyaluronic 2% in the green bottle in conjunction with the above, just on the bits that get driest.

I exfoliate twice a week - although no glycolic as that wrecks my skin.

My skin is the best it's ever been.

Oh that interesting thank you. I haven’t heard of either of those two brands. I like the sound of an oil, I do use argan oil in the evening but I’ve never tried and oil under makeup

Thank you, that looks perfect, I’ve just ordered it. Can I ask, what moisturiser do you use on top of it? @Oldgalgames

You won't be disappointed it really does hydrate, I damaged my skin barrier and this was the only thing that worked to clear it!

I use the cerave spf 50 moisturiser in the morning, I don't wear anything else at night now other than retinol over the top of the mucin

I love the snail essence. But I think the Vichy hyaluronic is the most hydrating serum to use. Plus a bottle lasts a year

I think you have to work out if your skin is dry or dehydrated, or both. And find products accordingly.

Dr Ildriss is useful on this - but it's not letting me link to one of her tiktoks.

I have a tendency towards both dry skin and dehydrated skin myself.

I find the cleansers I use are hugely important. Swapping to balm cleansers at night hsa been a huge step forward for me. I just use water in the morning or occassionally a very gentle cleanser if I've been sweaty overnight. And I use a gentle exfoliator once or twice a week.

When my skin is feeling especially dry I use hylaronic acid for a bit but I think that's more a short term fix.

The neutrogena hydro range is great and I use the night cream and the day cream (the spf one is not very effective as an spf so I'm planning to swap it out or go back to a separate moisteriser and SPF).

Clarins double serum in the morning is great, but it's a huge outlay in the first instance even if it does last forever. I also use the Clarins face oils once or twice a week before bed.

I also like vitamin C in the morning to protect my skin.

Clarins double serum I love but I don’t find it hydrating. I do think it’s a splurge too it doesnt last long for me as I do use a lot of product. I use the double eye serum constantly. The Clarins oil are beautiful and hydrating, it depends if you have acne prone skin as they can be clogging in your pores.

Op, the snail essesence or Vichy in the day, and just the Clarins oil and nothing else at night. And by the end of the week your skin will be glowing with hydration.

Also, just before your serum. Spray Curel spray onto your face. It locks in moisturise and I adore it!

Interestingly I have discovered anything with hyrolonic (sp) acid in dries my skin right out. Avoiding it,therefore most serums, has really helped.

twiddlingthumbs69 · 13/05/2025 19:56

@LoafofSellotapeyes I found exactly the same. It’s in everything anyway so not really sure that you need a separate one anyway.
