Loads of sun damage on face

I wasn’t sure whether to put this in Health or here but figured I may get more response here.

I’ve got loads of sun spots on my face and have been treated twice for actinic keratosis. My skin is very fair and I always take good care on sunny days and cloudy days too. Sunglasses and hat on, and factor fifty. I never sit in the sun but stupidly did get sunburned as a teenager and young woman in the 90s when we didn’t know so much about how bad it can be for us.

I want to investigate ways to get ride permanently of the sun spots as they bother me. Happy to spend serious money on this if the treatment is genuine and has excellent track record - up to £1k or so.

I’m in London but willing to travel anywhere in south east. If anyone can provide the name of a treatment or a salon or private dermatologist I’d be really appreciative. TIA!

I’d maybe consider Dermatica or Skin and Me or there are others. Tretinoin, Azelaic Acid and hydroquinone all help with pigmentation. I used to have freckle and now I don’t. I didn’t set out to get rid of my freckles as I quite liked them but it was still damage.

IPL photofacial. Costs £750 for 4 sessions. Much more effective than any creams you can buy.

I’ve just started using the sun damage reversal stuff from boots , not used it long enough to say whether it’s any good but the reviews are very good . might be worth a look.Try a chemical peel?

What she said. Look for a clinic run by proper plastic surgeons, they will only employ properly trained people, and not a beautician with a certificate from an on line course.

Peel or microneedling

Wexone · 11/05/2025 17:25

microneedling - had it before my wedding 6 sessions cist 1k. made a huge difference to my pigmentation. ita tad sore so make sure you get the numbing cream on it before your session. your skin is sensitive a few days after but down time is minimum you will get special cream to use aftrr. Best money I ever spent and you skink keeps improving long after you have had it done

Thanks everyone, I’m really appreciative of all your advice.

I know nothing about this but is the IPL phototofacial the same as micro needling?

Thanks, I’ll definitely look out for a clinic like this.

similar but not the same..some salons will do a combination of it if that's what your skin needs. go for a consult and see what they say. you will get a feeling if suits or not. also it is normal to pay a small fee on your consult. my place will offset it against treatment costs if go ahead
