35 year old does nothing with her skin, where do I start?

As the title says, I'm 35 and a new mum to 2. I'll be honest I do very little with my skin whatsoever- I'm so tired at the end of the day some nights I don't even remove my make up and I feel guilty spending money on skincare when money is tight.

All I use is the Aldi day and night moisturiser but I looked in the mirror tonight and I wanted to cry. My skin looks awful; it's dull, dry, I have so many lines and uneven skin texture, I feel disgusting.

I realise I need to get myself a skincare routine but where on earth do I start? Can anyone recommend some effective products that don't cost the earth?

Thanks for reading this far!

Do you wear sunscreen daily? If not, start there.

The best thing you can do is take off your make up at night and put on a decent night cream. You're at an age where retinol at night and vitamin c in the morning is a good idea. If you have a day cream that works for you then stick to it.

Find a routine that is easy to stick to and be consistent.

How new is new in terms of DC number 2 arriving?

You can't use retinol if your breastfeeding

I’m no expert but I like the superdrug me+ range.

Drink lots of water, wear sun screen, moisturise, remove your makeup and wash your face at night with a flannel. That’s it.

I’ve spent god only knows how much on skin care products and I don’t think any of them work. The only thing that fixed my face was accutane (I had acne for years) and in the future I might get Botox. Save your money.

I’m budget skin care and this is what works for me.
I really like the new simple range of creams and it’s really affordable.

also the Aldi £1.49 q10 day cream is really good!

I’m 45 and have very dry skin now but it has improved

cleanser am and pm - cerave hydrating or oil to foam with a microfiber cloth from primark
make up remover PM - body shop camomile balm or Superdrug miceller wipe Followed but cerave cleanser
day cream - simple 22% cica and ceramide OR dr Jart + ceramidin if I’m feeling spendy.
Night cream -Eucerin skin balance (from US) I’ve only just discovered night cream and it’s not in the UK

the new simple range is good and affordable and I have never been a simple fan in the past

Eucerin / cerave/LRP/ avene I have bits from them all.

it takes awhile to find what works

I’m 46 with very young kids I understand the exhaustion , I also never did much with my skin , I woke up what a massive hangover the morning after my 24th Birthday and I had a wrinkle on my face in the same place as my mother ! I read an article on the best anti aging budget moisturiser and it said Bio oil .

I’ve been using it at night for over 20 years and I can honestly say it’s been fab , I had my babies late thirties and 40’s and while I looked wrecked youngest didn’t sleep at night for 4 years….my skin is very good , I have very few fine lines and look much younger then my age . I can’t really put it down to genetics so the Bio Oil must have done something. I’m peri menopausal now and my skin is a little drier so I use the oil first thing in morning . It’s cheap and cheerful and it works.

@AmIAloneInThinking I have a 4 year old and 1 year old- so not tiny but I am also back at work full time as a headteacher which means I work until around 6, get home and do dinner, bath and bed and then reopen my laptop until around 11:30pm most nights. then the night wakes start and before I know it it's 6am again!
