Tret and dehydration

Hi hopefully someone in the know can help with this!

I have been using tretinoin for 3 years. It cleared up my melasma and has also made my skin smoother and pores smaller. However recently I’ve noticed my skin is getting a weird texture possibly due to dehydration. I use tret every night and moisturise at least twice during the day (spf50 every day) also drink plenty of water.

If I reduce tret to every other night do you think this could help? Will I still see the benefits I’ve been seeing if I do this? Thanks to anyone that can give advice.

Just to add I’m 40

Could just be age. I remember skin changes around 44 that surprised me a lot!

Yeh that’s why I added my age as part of me thought it could just be normal. I’ve never really noticed anyone else’s skin looking like this though.

I would reduce it from every night, for what ever reason your skin may not be tolerating a daily application at the moment. Could be hormones or weather etc

This is a picture of the texture. I think I will reduce to every other night and see if it makes any difference. I’ve emailed dermatica to see if they can give any advice too but obviously accept it could just be part of getting older.

This just a guess because I haven't used tretinoin but it looks like extreme dehydration.

Bluetod · 09/05/2025 22:19

Yes that’s what I think it is too from comparing with pictures online. Anyone know if this is fixable? It’s really not that obvious at all in person but I don’t want it getting worse

When i had similar but with another product o stopped using it for a week and then gradually built back up to every other day.
Also put moisturiser on a bit more frequently.
Seemed to do the job. However I am not skincare expert by any means.

Couldn’t hurt to try this - I’m going to pause and see what happens. Thanks for the suggestion

You can increase the moisturiser frequency or use it in sandwich method. I have been using tret for long time now and it has helped. Here goes my routine if you would be interested:
Morning:
Using water to wash your face,
Sebamed clear face gel,
Garnier spf
Cicaplast
Evening:
LRP moisturizer,
Tretinoin (0.1) from skinorac
Sebamed clear facial gel

Just incase anyone else has this problem I have an update. I stopped using dermatica for a week after this then resumed every other day instead of daily. Started using moisturiser in the middle of the day instead of just morning and night. Also bought a new moisturising face wash (Cereve cream to foam).

My skin is back to it’s best! I’m guessing it was just severely dehydrated as someone else suggested. Going to stick to every other day from now on - thanks very much for the advice on this.

Is it because of the tolerance?
