Help me keep my make up on!

Just that really. I find about half way through a work day my make up has started looking bit cakey, and my eyebrows (I have barely any from years of over plucking in the early 00s) have smudged/worn off.

I have just changed foundation after many years from double wear to nars light reflecting and after my first use I like it and would like to keep it .. but also conscious it's not as full coverage as DW and that didn't last all day!

I have dry/sensitive skin.

  1. I need to find an eyebrow pencil / pomade that lasts all day .. currently using my 2 year old benefit powade and a brow gel on top.

And 2) For my foundation to last longer, is it best to have a better priming /prep routine, or use a setting powder? I'm worried the powder will dry out my skin even more!

You need a good primer.

Elf is a good dupe for some more expensive ones. If you can afford Hourglass Veil make up primer then get it - it's fab.

Personally i find any foundation which is 'dewy' and isn't an old fashioned simple matte one, does need reapplying. My basic one is also a double wear one, but i like the look of Nars sheer glow. The Nars one is always a bit ... unstable looking on my T zone by the end of the day though.

A very very light brush with a good setting powder, away from the eyes to avoid sitting in lines, helps too.

I find Anastasia brow pomade is really long lasting, and you can adjust the depth by building the colour.

Elf setting spray is brilliant. Stops my make up sliding off.
I've also been told to do your eyebrows before and other make up. Remove any creams with a bit of
Micellar water first, and then do eyebrows. All the cream and foundation stops eyebrows makeup sticking

I used the elf putty primer on one side of my face a eborian primer on the other, as I'm finding in the warm weather my base isn't lasting so well as winter, I used the it cosmetics cc cream today, but by 2 pm I had to take it all off, it looked terrible, its hard to explain it looked like all my pores were visible, I had set it with a little hourglass powder, but can't understand why it looked so bad. I do use spf under all my makeup.

For your eyebrows, do microblading. It is a form of tattoo / semi-permanent make up. If you overplucked them, they tattoo in the individual hairs.

It is natural looking and quite amazing really. You need to top up every year on average. You can still use eyebrow pencil to enhance.

I also have semi-permanent eyeliner, which is a godsend because I don't have to worry about it sliding off.

I basically wake up make up ready every morning. Saves a lot of time.

I've recently changed my make up routine as mine was doing the same.

First I moisturise, let it soak in, then I apply a primer. After that I use an oil control setting spray, then I put on my make up as usual. I finish with a small amount of setting powder over my T-zone as that's where my skin is more oily. I find now that my make up stays on much better all day.

@donttellmewhaticantdo can I ask do you not wear spf, if so do you put it on after your moisturiser

A good primer and a setting spray will help. My personal favourites are the Bobbi Brown primer + protection (spf 50 - I use it on its own as a sunscreen too, it’s fab) and Urban Decay all nighter.

if your skin is oily so essentially makeup is sliding off, setting with a good powder will help. My favourite is the hourglass loose powder.

My moisturiser has spf in it, my foundation also contains spf.

I had my eyebrows microbladed (and I had a tattoo eyeliner) and it’s the best money I’ve ever spent. I used to have thin, wonky eyebrows but wasn’t capable of drawing them in myself.

Otherwise I find a setting spray helps to keep the rest of your makeup in place.
