Struggling a lot recently. Everything that I had relied on previously is now giving me a rash/making my eyes water/swelling my face. I have been tested and thought I knew what was causing it but now it’s pretty much everything! Anyone got a recommendation for really “clean” brands?

I would recommend and ap called Yuka - I you use to scan products (beauty and food ) and it tells you what risky ingredients there are, it lists them out so you will be able to check. You can scan before buying to check so it can cut down the costly mistakes.

Will definitely look in to this. Thankyou

I use Lucy Bee products for some skin care and have never had any reactions to these.

Can anyone point me in the direction of how to go about private testing for Methylisothiazolinone? NHS is a year wait! 🙁

I use Green People mascara and tinted moisturiser which are both MI-free.

Yep! But also get tested for Acrylates too. I did it through OUH, Oxford, they have both an NHS and Private part of the practice it costed me about 600 quid. Not sure where you are but look for NHS allergy testing clinics as some of them do private. MI is a nasty one it’s in so much and it’s my main chemical allergy.

You will need to make an appointment with your gp and ask for a private referral to a dermatologist that can do allergy testing.

Perhaps do some research first so you can tell the gp who you would like to be referred to.

English mineral makeup is lovely. I've recommended it a couple of times. It's all powder stuff but honestly makes my dry over 40 skin glow. You just have to get used to the application. I think it's better than bare minerals to be honest. Usually I end up with a reaction around my nose and chin (I think it couples up with using tret) when using any other foundation but don't get that with EMM. You can pay a small amount for samples to be sent to you.

I absolutely love the neutral one from EMM it goes over my BBcream nicely and gives me that lovely fresh glow.

I recommend the Yuka app too.

Have a look at Benecos make up. You can buy it on Amazon and it’s very affordable. https://benecos.uk/

Have a look at Dr Haushka and Lavera which you can find on Amazon. Both German natural brands, Dr Haushka is widely available in any whole foods type of place

I've seen the GP. He's referred me to dermatology for testing but the appointment is in September 2026! He didn't know if they'd test for chemicals or not 🤷🏼‍♀️

I'm in Lancashire. Will have a look, thank you. Yep it's definitely nasty - I've been away for the weekend and have come back with my face in an awful way, I'm assuming it was the bedding/towels!

I have very sensitive eyes and have found that Chanel mascara is the only
brand which doesn’t make
my eyes itchy and sore.
every so often I try another brand to try and reduce the cost! But always end up going back to Chanel straight away as the itching starts

Lily Lolo is good.

So you need to go back and ask the gp to refer you to a private dermatologist. I doubt you can refer yourself directly without involvement from your gp.

The gp may charge for a referral letter. Mine charged £20/25, I think.

The Yuka app is good but you do need to know what you are allergic to for it to be useful.
