Boden clearance sales - are they worth the hassle?

There is one happening near me next week, starting at 10 am.
I have heard these events are bunfights which makes me think they must be very cheap. Are they very cheap or only cheap if you think spending £60 on a skirt is normal.
I can't get there until 2.30. Does all the best stuff go really quickly?
Is the stuff on sale all the weird colours and sizes that nobody wants?
What sort of prices do they charge?
Can you get children's wear too?
Can you try stuff on before you buy?
I would like the chance to see some Boden stuff in real life as I'm loathe to order clothes on line without seeing them first.
I'm interested in knitwear and children's wear but nothing to obviously patterned and Boden-ish (if you see what I mean).

I went to one once and probably won't do it again. You DO have to get there early as I found that people just grabbed anything and everything in their size, then went off to a corner and discarded anything they didn't want. So unless you are ok with just ploughing through piles of mixed up cast offs, I wouldn't bother! The prices aren't that cheap either - better off waiting for online sales. They do have kids stuff, and they have ALL styles and sizes, but it goes QUICK!! (and i suspect ends up on ebay!)

Sounds horrendous Nellie. People behave better at jumble sales! And jumble sales are cheaper too. I really really really don't want to run into braying types in jumble sale mode, all fighting over the last Fun Skirt or Hotchpotch Cardigan. I will give it a miss. Unless anyone has had a better experience?

I went to one that was fine - it was on for two days, I went early afternoon on the first day and got a few things, but I couldn't see how they were even going to open on the second day. I got a bag for a tenner, cord trousers for £20 (fairly normal price in normal shops, obv v cheap for Boden), a cardi for a tenner, couple of other bits.

It was very well organised - everything set out by sizes, so you just found your size/your kids' size, and saw what there was. Some things were weird - I ended up giving a pair of girls' trousers to my friend as they were SO long and skinny there was no way they'd ever fit my DD.

There was a mix of very plain stuff (my trousers and cardi are both black) and the worst excesses of hotchpotch.

I wouldn't go out of my way for one, but I might plan a trip to town if there happened to be another one on locally.

How do you find out when and where they are?

DontCallMeBaby · 20/05/2008 17:41

I was notified ... think it came through the post, as I'm also the happy recipient of cheesey 'you've always been one of our best customers, why so not now, have a voucher' letters.

pootleflump · 20/05/2008 17:50

I think it's well worth going, prices are a lot cheaper than in the sales. It is very vicious though so be prepared for that.

Mini Boden goes almost instantly- especially in the smaller sizes. They always have a fitting room so you can try first (can be a good place for finding things that have been discarded by others too).

It's infuriating seeing the obvious ebayers though, throwing 10 of the same item into their basket- greedy bs .

Didn't buy anything, saw one or two things that took my fancy - rust coloured corduroy coat that was too creased and looked like an old dishcloth (not like it did in the catalogue!) and some purple wedge boots but they didn't have them in my size. Prices were as follows: dresses £20, jumpers/cardis £30 (which I thought quite pricey), skirts/trousers £20, boots £40, shoes £20, tops £20, jackets/coats £40,leather bags £40, children's trousers £9. Everything was in boxes according to size which made things easy to find. There was hardly any decent childrenswear. They even had a box of odd shoes and boots!

ooh sounds like some of the prices have gone up since last year- I only paid £15 for tops and definitely not £30 for cardi's.
