Fat belly help - please be kind!

I’m due to start a new job where I have to wear a uniform of a blouse (nylon nightmare!) and black trousers. I never ever wear short tops as I have a very large belly (apron?) that hangs below short tops so I wear dresses or tunics. Now this blouse isn’t going to come low enough to hide my disgusting belly. Is there some type of trouser that is more flattering (float wide leg?) or should I wear a long vest top underneath to disguise the shape? I’m really nervous about this as my belly is a major hang up for me and I am very self-conscious. I am on Mounjaro so hopefully it will shrink soon. Any advice appreciated

Congratulations on the new job. Size up in the blouse. It will be longer. If you can afford it get it tailored. Elesticated trousers are the way to go.

Thank you, unfortunately I am fat all over so I’ve got the biggest size blouse they do. Do you think a flowy trouser rather than a tailored trouser is better?

Have they given you the top yet? If they have taken it with you and try on a few styles of trousers, I would guess elasticated waist, loose fit might be best but it would be good to try a few styles I think. If you don't have the actual top either take your closest match or find one in store to try with the trousers. Somewhere big like m&S or John Lewis, even if you're not going to buy from there you could just try different styles and actually buy the same style trousers but from somewhere else.

I understand your issue, C-section belly and long torso means trousers and tops are difficult for me too. Good luck with the mounjaro, I'm 3 and a half stone down so far after starting in November.

OK a good taylor can let the blouse out of needed. Extra panels under arm pits etc. A camisole underneath is a good idea too. Yes flowing trousers so they don't cling to lumps and bumps.

Blondebrownorred · 02/05/2025 17:32

Why is the blouse short? Is it cropped? Surely blouses are all long and get tucked into trousers?

monicagellerbing · 02/05/2025 17:44

Thank you @UpToonGirl good idea. Ok @BeyondburnoutI’ll try the flowy trouser see if it looks ok, I’m short too so sometimes a flowy trouser makes me look like a clown!

@Blondebrownorredno it’s not cropped but I’m fat and have a large belly that comes below ‘normal’ length tops.

Sounds like you use a long vest anyway to aviod tummy exposure.
get any trousers taken up if needed.

Don't forget fun stuff, accessories. Hair and makeup 😘

I'd try M and S. They have quite a few high waisted trousers.

ISeeTrees · 02/05/2025 18:29

I can't imagine in weather like today's that a vest underneath is going to be comfortable at all OP! I'd suggest similar to pp with high waisted trousers. I've got a pair from Sainsbury's that I think are described as "Yoga trousers" and they're really soft, not hugely wide legged but a bit and the waistband is almost like a maternity style- a large band that you can fold over to your preference. They're just plain black and look pretty smart. Would something like that work?

fatgirlswims · 02/05/2025 19:25

High waisted trouser with pleats in (tapered or barrel) The extra volume below the waist bands skims over the apron. Shirt tucked in either a slim belt.

madaboutpurple · 02/05/2025 20:57

once you get your blouse hopefully you will be able to buy some that look similar in a better size for you.
