How many of you do your own beauty treatments at home?

I do my own waxing/facials/manicures and pedicures and feel I do a pretty good job. There is no way I could afford to get these things done at the salon. Does any one else do their own?

Me, I never go to a beauty salon, I think it is a waste of money as I do a fairly good job at home.

try your local college (especially at this time of year) they are always looking for clients for their students to be assessed on. im getting a cut and colour on weds for £12.

staryeyed · 17/05/2008 23:01

good tip lissie. I may do that I have been to Tony and Guy in Central London for a haircut for £5. that was quite a bargain but took too long (haircut and travel)

staryeyed · 17/05/2008 23:04

at the college?

OracleInaCoracle · 17/05/2008 23:06

yep. im a student there, but at this stage in term they are desperate for clients. ive dragged people from the hairdressing class for full body aroma massges totally FOC

staryeyed · 17/05/2008 23:11

Do they also do waxing? Im quite happy doing waxing but it does get a bit tiresome and tricky on the backs of legs.

they do. at my college its £3 i think.

Seabright · 18/05/2008 10:07

I use the DIY eyebrow shapers from Superdrug. Cheap, not painful and very effective

staryeyed · 18/05/2008 10:12

how do you use those sea bright?

I do manicures/pedicures at home. Practise really does make perfect when doing french nails - they were crap to begin with but now even my sister (a beauty salon nut) is really impressed with them. I think it costs about £21 for manicure and french polish at my salon - I spend £6 on a set to begin with and it'll last months. And you don't get annoyed when you chip abit off after a day! I would never attempt my eyebrows at home though.

RubySlippers · 18/05/2008 10:32

i do manicures and pedicures at home (although in the summer i do treat myself to a pedi as they last longer)

have eyebrows threaded at a salon

MIL cuts my hair

I dye my hair at home too

OracleInaCoracle · 18/05/2008 11:10

no, not me!

staryeyed · 18/05/2008 11:37

I was just looking around and this lady was talking about college beauty treatments with your name (well almost -lisyloo). What a coincidence.

lol, that is a bit spooky. maybe i have a doppleganger!

expatinscotland · 18/05/2008 16:17

i do it all at home, too. every bit. including cutting and colouring my hair and all waxing - i use Bliss wax and strips, pedicure, manicure, etc.

salons charge too much for me.

DarrellRivers · 18/05/2008 16:21

Recently have gone back to doing most at home
plucking eyebrows, nails, fake tan, hair removal , hair colouration and am growing hair as is cheaper than short hair
It all adds up

badgermonkey · 18/05/2008 16:53

I just did a mani/pedi on myself to get my feet sandal-worthy! I think it looks pretty good, to be honest.

I use an epilator, so no waxing, and I've plucked my eyebrows since I was 12 so I ought to be good at it by now.
