Best application for liquid foundation?

I realise that the powder foundations I've been using for decades are no longer flattering on my 'mature' 🙄 skin. I need to go more glowy, dewy or something.

Talk to me please about the different ways to apply liquid foundation, what do people recommend ? Not sure between brushes, sponge, fingers etc. I usually like medium coverage for going out but during the day I prefer sheer.

I always use a sponge, I mix it with moisturiser if I want a sheer cover

I've only just started using a brush and it's a game changer (for me anyway). I dab little bits on skin and just work it in.

I do the Katie Jane Hughes method of a brush and patting it in very lightly, works well for me! https://www.tiktok.com/@katiejanehughes/video/7462754939388005678

Fingers.

I used to use sponge and then I tried a good quality brush recently and it’s made a huge difference. My foundation looks sheer and flawless.

I use a sponge. You’re supposed to use them damp. I find brushes leave brush marks and I end up tapping with my fingers to get the brush marks out.

CalypsoCuthbertson · 28/04/2025 19:36

@summerice which brand of brush do you use?

DissDissOrDiss · 28/04/2025 19:39

Same as PP - KJH method of one pump into hand and working it into the brush before buffing on to my skin. Start on the sides of the nose/plains of cheeks and work outwards. Sheer coverage but buildable in areas as necessary.

Brush.

Buffing brushes are good for a sheer, smooth coverage. I agree that flat foundation brushes leave streaks,

thanks @DissDissOrDiss I’ll have to have another look as do prefer using a brush

AliBaliBee1234 · 28/04/2025 19:44

You need some peaches and cream brushes, the absolute best! Just a small thin layer.

I got a dual ended brush by E.L.F from Amazon.Works great.

CalypsoCuthbertson · 28/04/2025 20:16

Thanks @SummerIce :)

A brush. I find it gives more even coverage.
