Just discovered vinted. I'm in ireland so it's only here a few months. Can only buy from Ireland and France atm. I've bought a few things with varying degrees of success. I usually buy from m and s, h and m, next online. I'd like to buy better quality clothes that have better fabrics and will last. So what brands to look for? Any general tips for shopping there? If anyone knows any good quality petite brands other than m and s I'd be grateful. The whole app seems flooded with mango and zara which i like, but not really the quality I'm looking for. I dress quite classically, I like tailored trousers etc.

Have you tried filtering by fabric e.g linen, cotton and silk? But check the item description carefully as some sellers list an item silk, when they mean silkY, I.e polyester. If an item is a 100% natural fabric, you’re generally looking at better quality.

I’m obsessed but try and mitigate risks as follows:
I have a master list of brands which have a saved search for. These are high quality and would be normally out of my budget.
I have a spreadsheet of sizing and my own measurements to reference. A Vinted 14 is listed as an xl for example so it helps to actually see the sizing label to check.
labels will also give info on washing and material. There’s a lot of sellers who will list silk when the garment is actually polyester!
I rebuy wardrobe favourites as I’m losing weight and if I really love something I’ll look out for it so I can size down.
i have a ceiling of what I’m prepared to spend

some of my “learning experiences”
an all saints coat that was described as very good and dry cleaned. Turned up covered in dog hair, moth holes and actually on the label said it couldn’t be either washed or dry cleaned! Returned
an all saints cardigan described as specifically rip free - the tears were hidden by the cuffs. It’s still in my mending pile.
a denim jacket which turned out to be cropped and looks dreadful on me. In future I won’t buy any jacket until I check the body length!
a sleeveless jumper listed as xl - so a 14 according to Vinted - turned out to be a 20-22
Handbag described as BNWT- stains inside - returned.

but on the other hand:
leather blazer, trench and two biker jackets - excellent condition - including an all saints
DMs barely worn
occassion outfits obviously just worn once
Many tops and trousers BNWT - I’m a M&S short and have had some reall bargains.

I’ve replaced my entire wardrobe over the last year or so and have also sold almost £500 worth of my old clothes too.

Forgot to say that I use this forum to discover brands I may not have come across and then just add them to my master list.

Use the filters as far as possible then select the brands and colours you’d like to see
once you’ve used it a few times it recommends similar items
Muji and Uniqlo are my go tos and Ecco for shoes.
Filter for condition BNWT/ no tags, very good
Good photos which show fabric composition are very helpful as are measurements
i often message sellers if still unsure.
I have had some fantastic bargains and rarely buy new clothes now.

I mainly get my things from Vinted apart from trousers which I prefer to try on. I have had no disasters luckily. I also use ebay. I am recently retired so I am getting a more casual set of clothes together. I will be going to theatre matinees and out for lunch much more and meeting up for coffee. I want to look nice and don't need trouser suits any longer.

Great tips, just what I'm looking for. I never thought to filter the fabric type. And I need that master list of brands!! All saints is obviously one, would mint velvet/reiss/ cos be of good quality?

I have a lot of saved searches and find the algorithm works well - it quickly starts recommending stuff you'll actually like.

Good advice so far on here but I'd add - don't be afraid to ask for a label photo to check sizing, washing instructions and fabric.

I generally filter to BNWT, BNWT and very good condition. I also filter sizes to M/10, L/12, and XL/14, as I'm usually 12-14 and that usually covers it. Then I carefully check the sizing on each listing (don't take it for granted!).

It's great, as a pp said, for finding more of something you already have - I do a lot of that as if I love something, I like to have two of it!

My preferred brands on Vinted are usually Toast, Hush, Seasalt, Plumo, Finisterre, Rapanui, sometimes Boden. These might not be brands I like all the time, but at least I generally know they'll be good quality enough to last second-hand.

If you're selling, you can set yourself to holiday mode if you're away and can't post. Also, check your postage settings - more than once I've had to manually disable a print-at-hone label postage setting that Vinted has imposed on me - I have no bloody printer so digital label is my only option!
