I haven't been in an m&s for years. I went to the one in Street, Somerset today as I need some smaller size trousers.
Everything in there was absolute trash. The shoes, the clothes everything. I was appalled. There was nothing in there I'd be seen dead in.
It's an outlet, does that mean rejects or something because I was shocked at the massive quality slide.

Was it all polyester shit? I know they market it as ‘recycled polyester’ but it’s still all cheap and tacky stuff.

ShaunaSadeki · 25/04/2025 20:48

Oh maybe because it’s an outlet.Ive started liking a few things in M&S but haven’t been sure if it has improved style wise, or I have just aged into to demographic.

Firenzeflower · 25/04/2025 20:49

I think the quality is good. I’ve got things I know will last for years.

mynameiscalypso · 25/04/2025 20:50

M&S is definitely having a style moment right now - lots of items being picked by fashion editors etc. I think the quality is fair for the price point too.

fruitpastille · 25/04/2025 20:52

I like m and s at the moment but the outlet shops are not great.

weareallqueens · 25/04/2025 20:54

An outlet is generally sale stuff. So the stuff that didn’t sell in the first round. The levels of store upkeep won’t quite be the same I don’t thing either.

(I think ‘trash’ is a bit harsh though- some people don’t have a choice other than to shop in outlets.)

Thingamebobwotsit · 25/04/2025 21:01

Outlet shops aren't great for M&S. I tend to buy online or in store.

I did wonder if it was becsuse it was an outlet shop. Some of the clothes looked like their buttons didn't do up straight. Very cheap and nasty looking.

I was in the norwich shop on Wednesday looking for summer trousers but all linen mix were see through, unless you buy black, took 12 pairs in the fitting room, and brought one pair of animal print. All the linen mix ones were rubbish. At 27.50 yes they are cheap but they don't hang nicely, I still have a pair from viyella that I brought over 10 years ago when I worked there, they are lined and a thick fabric that hangs well.

Rollofrockandsand · 25/04/2025 21:58

M&S is fabulous at the moment. However, you do need to go to a big store. Honestly, they’re absolutely nailing it at the moment

GetTheWashingOut · 25/04/2025 23:52

I love m&s. Apart from no dresses really . But tee shirts are great, lovely knitwear in for spring. I bought the wide linen navy trousers which I love.

sunshineandshowers40 · 25/04/2025 23:54

I'm liking Marks and Spencer now and I was never really a fan.

uncomfortablydumb60 · 26/04/2025 01:08

I have to go to Sainsburys tomorrow so I'll check it out thanks. I love Somerset but the lack of decent shops and good garden centres is a bit depressing.

M&S is having a style moment and has been for a couple of years. I am LOVING it at the moment. Go to a big store and see.

M&S outlet is something completely different though.

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 26/04/2025 05:00

I see things I'm Sainsbury's that are so similar to some of the M&S stuff, often a season later, that I'm convinced they're made in the same factories.

Sesma · 26/04/2025 06:28

The outlet shops are often ex sale things that haven't sold, bit similar to the Next outlets but they are often ok for underwear

Sesma · 26/04/2025 06:34

Most outlet stores are generally ex sale or seconds so I would probably go to the proper shops instead.

BeatrizBoniface · 26/04/2025 06:39

I'm loving it at the moment. I'm finding clothes in natural fibres. I bought 3 pairs of wide legged trousers, good quality cotton, not see though £25.

foxyfour · 26/04/2025 07:02

They are doing brilliant at the moment with their clothing in their main stores but the outlets are basically stuff they’ve been unable to shift in their regular sales. It’s the same with next. We have an outlet near us and it’s a jumble sale. Full of stuff from years ago that they can’t sell.

I usually go to M & S in Taunton which is ok or Bath if I fancy a day out. I agree that the outlet at Street is rather poor. It doesn't really sell the 'normal' things that are sold in the proper stores.

ToadRage · 17/05/2025 12:03

I used to live near Street, always found the outlet better than the main store. Most of what they stock is last seasons leftovers or particular items made just for them. If I saw something I liked in the main store I would wait to see if it arrived in the outlet, it usually it did at a fraction of its original price
