Has anyone used that Dove Summer Glow stuff and does it matter about the skin type?

because it was 2 for 1 at Sainsburys so I ordered it but I didn't realise it had a skin type and it says medium to dark skin and I'm fair skinned.

It doesn't LOOK very dark but does it go quite dark after you've put it on (and does it work?)

Fox- im so pale im literally transparent- I still use the darker one and tbh, it looks great.

I look 'healthy' instead of 'ill'!!

It does work- its not a tan like you see on Jordan etc (blatant orange fake shit)- dont worry, you wont end up like David Dickinson, I promise

sweetbean · 17/05/2008 17:19

Ive used it and its really good !! just builds up the more you put on and if you exfoliate a lot then it stays looking fab for ages !!

foxinsocks · 17/05/2008 17:19

lol thanks tiredemma. That's what I was worried about. How exciting! I shall put it on tonight. My legs look virtually blue at the moment.

ahh right exfoliate. Do I do that before I put it on then?

I've just bought it but haven't had a chance to use it yet but I have very pale skin so I got the lighter one.

tiredemma · 17/05/2008 17:20

Yes, it does take away that 'corpse' look.

Apply it in circular motions, stops any streaking.

CrackerOfNuts · 17/05/2008 17:22

I exfoliate and moisturise legs for a couple of days first and then I apply it and use a tanning mit. Without a mit I end up looking very streaky.

I have used the dove one and liked it, but am using the Loreal one at the mo...well i will when i can be arsed.

CrackerOfNuts · 17/05/2008 17:23

Emma, do you use it on your face ??

I have one specifically for face but find it makes no difference at all. Would the body one look odd ?

DarrellRivers · 17/05/2008 17:24

i used the johnsons one, beware still around ankles and elbows etc.
the circular tip is useful thanks

tiredemma · 17/05/2008 17:26

I use it on my face.

Cant say people have been pointing and laughing!!

it looks ok, really.

it looks like I have a nice tan.

If you are going to use it on your face though make sure you do your neck and chest if you are planning to wear vest/low cut top.

CrackerOfNuts · 17/05/2008 17:27

Will do.

It's the back of my shoulders I struggle to do.

PixelHerder · 17/05/2008 17:30

Dilute it with body lotion or moisturiser for your first application - if you don't go too orange then you can always do a more concentrated dose tomorrow!

foxinsocks · 17/05/2008 17:31

ooh excellent tips, thanks everyone. Now I don't have a mitt. Does that matter?

tiredemma · 17/05/2008 17:38

its not at all D Dickenson esq.

Not on moi anyway.

charliecat · 17/05/2008 17:48

i hve pale skin and i mixed the dark one with moisturiser as it did make me very streaky and orange so be careful!

CrackerOfNuts · 17/05/2008 17:55

You've got to be kidding emma, she'd write IDIOT or something on my back with it LOL.

My arms always look fab which ever one I use, but my legs always go a bit patchy around ankles and knees whatever I do.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 17/05/2008 18:14

I've just seen it on bogof on Ocado as well.

I always use the fair-normal fis so I don't know how potent the dark one is. They do tend to build up with use so you'll probably be alright - at least to begin with.

Definitely exfoliate first - especially back of heels, all around knee area and elbows.

And remember to wash your hands afterwards so you don't get orange palms.

summersun06 · 17/05/2008 18:25

Its great I use it! I have very pale skin and find the fair to med is the best after 3 day (of once a day app.) I look like Iv had a spray tan ...or 2 weeks aboard lol

BTW I find it stains hands so wash them thoughly so you dont end up with youv been tango hands.. like me

foxinsocks · 18/05/2008 18:36

omg is it really that orange? I didn't even think about my hands.

maybe if I only put it on once a week? It has just dawned on me that I will not be seeing the sun at all seen as I'm stuck in a bloody office for the first summer in years grrr. I don't want a whole tan, just don't want to look completely pasty and blue on my legs.

SheikYerbouti · 18/05/2008 18:45

Not used Dove, using Johnsons atm

Exfoliate exfoliate exfoliate! (I used some sugar in olive oil as an exfoliator - it's excellent)

You need to use it for 5 days and then apply everyday for it not not go bitty. Now the sun has gone in, I can't be arsed and mine has gone a bit patchy.

SheikYerbouti · 18/05/2008 18:46

Sorry, I meant 5 days and then apply every other day

foxinsocks · 18/05/2008 18:50

ah right, so I've got to be quite dedicated then. I think I'll wait a week and then try it and in the meantime, do lots of exfoliating.

Good tip re the sugar. Have lots of that and oliveoil lying around. Does it not leave your skin very oily afterwards ?
