Toner/semi permanent for grey blended hair?

I was sick of the badger stripe of regrowth after colouring my hair, so my hairdresser recommended I try grey blending ie highlights without using a root tint so the blonde and white/grey sort of blur together. It’s supposed to extend time between colouring and make regrowth less obvious. I used to be a medium brunette but have been highlighting for years. My hairline is completely white/grey, my crown I guess 80% grey but there’s more brown at the back. I’m not 100% convinced by the grey blending, In a recent photo, the lengths of my hair look warm/yellow which clashes with the white/grey/brown cool tones of my roots. Can anyone recommend a product that will cool my hair down, give some gloss and blur the roots a bit? Not a purple shampoo. Definitely not ready to go fully grey yet - when I pull my hair back so it’s just grey by my face, I think I look older and drained.

Fellow badger here. I’ve had mine salon coloured for about 18 months and the grey roots are now close to matching the greyish highlights through the rest, so I’m looking at growing it out as is. When it’s down, I have the central badger part back in a clip which disguises it somewhat and seems to make it all look alright. You could change your parting as well as an alternative. I’m not going for box dye because they can be unpredictable and the salon colour streaks generally blends nicely with the natural streaks coming through.

Yes I think my hair might look better when there is a bit more grey in the lengths rather that just at the roots. I might pop in for a salon toner to help blur the transition. I’m wary of even semi permanent box ‘glosses’ without a recommendation

I am in a similar place OP, the blended areas are distinctly yellow. I get salon toner every 6-8 weeks (that lasts a fortnight ..) & use a black shampoo (milkshake icy blonde) which helps in-between. Cannot WAIT for it to grow out.

Yes, I would get it done professionally, box dye is often pretty fierce and can leave you with the dreaded brassy tones.

Thanks. Does the shampoo make a noticeable improvement? I don’t want to be grey - just not constantly aware of a stripe of regrowth.

There's still a band of the blonde highlights, but it is duller. I am a natural dark brunette, had a 3/4 head full of blonde highlights prior to grey blend. It's been v successful on the existing blonde highlights, but has blonded on the bits that were previously darker. It's overall got an annoying blonde tinge instead of greyed brunette at the back.

I've also used shrine grey drops in conditioner - tones down the yellow, but needs to be done weekly and I haven't the energy/ commitment.

i’ve used Bleach London’s Fade to Grey range. Bleach London Fade To Grey Toner Kit. There’s a grey toner, shampoo and conditioner.

The toner is the strongest but the shampoo also works (if used regularly and left on her for a while).

I’ve been growing out my colour for 18+ months and my hairdresser also put some highlights in to help blend it. I know have about an inch or two left of warm brown at the ends but it’s not so obvious now and hopefully it will grow out completely by the end of this year.

So I use lots of different ones sort of whatever is on offer
Bleach London Fade to Grey
L’Oréal Age Perfect colour Care Silver
Schwarzkopf LIVE Colour Drops Semi-permanent Silver Hair Dye Ice Silver - you mix that with your conditioner
Revolution HaircareToner Shot Blonde Ice Diamond

I also use purple shampoo & conditioner

John Frieda violet crush is pretty good but again what’s on offer!
I still have quite a lot of dark hair but I’m damned if I’m growing it out again so I have some highlights underneath the top layer & round my face & then blend it in with the salt & pepper using all of the above.

I’ve just read your post again - I don’t think purple shampoo on its own would make it look grey but it will take the warmth & yellow tinge out of your highlights!
