Taking makeup off

surreygirl1987 · 22/04/2025 20:13

Help! I've recently increased how much makeup I use and I'm struggling with removing it in the evening.

I use Clinique's 'take the day off balm followed by Clinique's cleansing lotion. But I'm finding it's not taking thr makeup off properly and I'm left with panda eyes.

Surely there's something else I should be using, maybe on a pad to wipe my eyes?!

Can't go wrong with miscellar water. I only discovered it last year and I'm amazed at how it gets even waterproof mascara off and doesn't sting my eyes at all.

Idontjetwashthefucker · 22/04/2025 20:43

I use tubing mascara, comes off very easily with just warm water

MichaelandKirk · 22/04/2025 20:47

Clinique do a remover for eye make up. Soak a cotton pad and leave in place for 20 seconds or so. Then wipe. Clarins do a nice one too but get the one for waterproof make up.

If feeling a little poor Nivea eye make up remover. The one you shake to distribute.

Happyinarcon · 22/04/2025 20:56

Microfibre cloth for makeup is also good with micellar water

bloodredfeaturewall · 22/04/2025 20:56

I love a flannel & warm water & bar soap

a variation of double cleansing works well
-apply any old lotion/moisturiser wipe off with damp flannel
-lather soap and again wash off with damp flannel & warm water

sometimes extra lotion is needed to get eye make up off.

I use almond oil, big tub from Amazon, a flannel and hot water. Removes every trace of make up.

Rotundaweek · 22/04/2025 21:07

I’ve tried quite a few different cleansers but always go back to Superfacialist Vitamin C cleansing oil. You can get it in Boots or off Amazon for about £8. I put the oil onto dry hands and massage into my face and then wet a face cloth with warm water and use this to take my make up off. The oil is good for taking off mascara and foundation.

For days when I wear makeup I pull out the big guns, dermalogica precleanse works an absolute treat for me (although I don’t wear heavy makeup) and then follow up with a balm cleanser.

savuni27 · 23/04/2025 00:03

I use cetaphil cleanser to wash my face and then cotton wool and miscellar water to wipe over afterwards.

surreygirl1987 · 23/04/2025 10:34

Thanks - all really helpful.

I use Cetaphil gentle cleansing lotion, massaged in and removed with damp cotton pads

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 23/04/2025 14:20

I remove eyemakeup first - using Nivea dual phase (the one you have to shake to mix) Once that's off I use micellar water on a cotton pad. Then I use a balm cleanser, massage it all over face & eyes and wipe off with a face cloth rinsed through with warm water.

Reachoutreachout · 23/04/2025 14:24

Agree with the above post about almond oil. You can use any oil to take make up off, I have tried olive oil, coconut, almond and jojoba. Jojoba is my favourite, but a big bottle from eBay. So effective, smother on face, work into eye lashes, take off with hot flannel.

shuffleofftobuffalo · 23/04/2025 14:28

Get some of the make up remover cloths like these, use it first to remove make up (really works!) and then go back in with your cleansers. I got mine from primark - inexpensive and last we’ll (had them years, never had to replace)

Another vote for micellar water.

Arancia · 23/04/2025 14:50

You need to use a makeup removing oil, and a small face towel, cloth or flannel. The oil will literally melt away your makeup with no effort, and you can use a wet towel, cloth or flannel to wipe the makeup off - easily. The makeup will definitely come off completely, but you do need to follow up with a normal face cleanser to properly cleanse your skin.

I use this oil cleanser from Elizabeth Arden, as it's the best I have tried (and I have tried MANY different ones). It's also fragrance-free, which I prefer.

I use garnier rose cleanser on a large, square cotton wool pad. Take off all foundation etc on one side of pad then turn it over and gently rub folded pad across eyelashes and around the eye. It all comes off.

I sometimes do a second cleanse of the face with a clean cotton pad to check all foundation is removed.

Ime, the Garnier rose liquid cream is more thorough than micellar water.

Another vote for Miscellar water

TwilightSkies · 23/04/2025 15:09

Coconut oil, warm water and a face cloth. Cheap, works perfectly and doesn’t aggravate the skin at all.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 23/04/2025 15:13

I use Pond's cold cream, then wipe face with a warm flannel and follow up with Nivea eye make up remover. Effective and fairly cheap routine.

I use the Primark version of these and they are fab.
I use them with superdrugs own hot cloth cleanser (the vitamin e one). Also fab 😁

I always wonder, those of you who use, flannel/muslin cloth etc
How often do you change it. Do you use a different one every day?
Do you wash them in washing machine with detergent?

I wash it out in soapy water and use it about three times before chucking in wash.

Yes a new one every night. I have a stack of them in the airing cupboard. Thrown in with the general clothes washing, it's only makeup on them!
