Super casual outfit ideas for this chilly weather

I’m sorted for work clothes and smart casual outfits (meeting up for coffee/errands) but I’m really struggling with ideas for super casual outfits for walks/days out with family. We spent 2 days in the Lakes last week and I looked like I’d been dragged through a hedge backwards as I had to wear lots of layers and a big hooded puffs coat over the top.
I want some outfit ideas please for more streamlined put together outfits that can keep me warm and dry. I’m too old for tracksuits/co-ords (53) but do wear leggings.

It’s tricky at this time of year because it’s so changeable. I think a stylish waterproof coat is probably the answer, but I’m yet to find one. In the meantime, I’m generally in a hoodie and leather jacket plus DMs and either jeans or a midi skirt.

I feel you completely. I had totally lost my mojo and started living in oversized jumpers and leggings. I've just discovered Melyr, and the tops are really great. They're light and airy but give you some shape and go with everything. This is my favourite for summer https://www.melyr.co.uk/products/nico-pearl

Nico Boat Neckline Jersey Top - Pearl

The best-selling Nico kimono sleeve top is the perfect curve-skimming piece to fit and flatter your figure. Shop Nico Pearl boat neckline top now.

@Bustyfashionlover I’m wearing a very similar style top today with flared leggings and a cropped trench but I’m shopping inside a centre so no weather issue.

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie This is what I need - a stylish waterproof coat - I’m not sure they exist! I would love a mid olive or beige hooded trench coat with a removable fleecy warm inner layer. Impossible to find!

I spend weekends going on long walks rurally.

I stick to neutral colours. I wear dark grey legging with walking socks, a decent fleece (Patagonia, Columbia) and have a couple of good gilets and 2 sweaty Betty waterproof coats ( which I think look better than many waterproofs on offer and have great pockets so I don't need a bag). This can all be layered up and still look neat in all but coldest of weathers. Some fleeces have a pouch pocket that keys, lip gloss and keys can go in. Walking leggings often have phone pockets.

I like my base tops to be fitted and my fleeces to be fairly short so that I retain a shape rather than all bulky

There is no disguising walking shoes though

I would say avoid patterns and hard to match colours

I went to Buxton recently and virtually every woman there seems to be wearing leggings with socks over and trainers. I know this is not considered stylish but at least your hems don't get muddy.

Oh we visited Buxton last weekend - but I classed that as a “town day” as we just walked around the town and then went for afternoon tea. So I was fine in a wool coat and flared jeans. Buxton was lovely - nice spring atmosphere with a fair and market. And the opera house was gorgeous. Might visit again solo as looked to be some good shops but DH was with us and he has no patience for browsing 😂

@youngerself forgot to say thanks for the layering tips. I think my problem is that I just don’t really want to be wearing “walking gear” but then I am out walking and just look silly and cold when I don’t have the right warm and waterproof clothes. Must have a proper look at Patagonia et al as you have suggested.

@JMAngel1 I love Buxton and saw Jesus Christ Superstar on Wednesday at the opera house which I thoroughly enjoyed. Great range of restaurants too as well as good walks!

I bought a North Face jacket that has a zippable inner lining - - Columbia does something similar and I bought a good one in TK Maxx. Something fitted seems to be the key.

North face triclimate Suzzanne it was in navy which looked smart but they don't seem to be doing that this year.

Others recommend Seasalt coats.

I feel like this! I invested in a set of decent outdoor clothing feel much more pulled together. Leggings with pockets (mine are Amazon but if you want to be fancy go Lulu or SB) and Nike trail trail trainer or adidas Terrex trainer, a Borg fleece (inshore two from primary and Columbia I will invested in a Patagonia Pine Bank 3 in 1

Or if you wanted cheaper coat Alpine trek own brand Heber Peak- Sylvia He Long. I bought it in berry brown but it was far too big so I sent it back. But it was a nice outdoor coat for around £75. Size down!
