Will azeylic acid deal with this redness around the nose?

I have permanent redness around the nose, on both sides. Pic attached. It starts under the eye area and goes down just beyond the nose. I'm guessing this is some kind of rosacea?

I heard Soolantra is good so asked the GP for some which they gave with no questions but it didn't make any difference.

I am very very pale so this redness really stands out. Looks worse in real life than the photo.

In any event I've heard people to say try acezlic acid. Has anyone had this same issue and used that product with good effect?

And if yes, which is the best brand or type to go for? There seem to be quite a few varieties per Google.

I know you can counteract the redness with stuff like the Cicapair which I did purchase but I want to resolve the problem rather than try to cover it up.

Thanks

Could it be the butterfly rash of lupus

I don't think so as I googled pics after your post and the redness seems to go across the face with lupus whereas mine is very much only aroun the nose area.

I like the facetheory one but I see they've changed it and it's now called blemicalm so not sure if the formula is the same.

I'm using Give Me Cosmetics azaleic acid for darker pigmentation, it's cheap and it seems to be helping. I've also got their green tinted CC cream/primer and it gives a sheer coverage and feels nice on the skin.

I like all their products to be honest, haven't been disappointed with anything and my skin feels smoother than it ever has.

Azelaic Acid Cream | Give Me Cosmetics

Our Azelaic Acid Cream unclogs pores, reduces inflammation, and brightens dark spots and hyperpigmentation.

It looks like rosacea.
I have similar and have been using an azaleic acid serum. It hasn’t made a jot of difference to be honest. You probably need one of the big guns like laser or light therapy to make a permanent difference.

It looks like rosacea. I’ve tried a few different treatments and unfortunately it’s not made a lot of difference. For me the things that make it worse are sun exposure, chlorine, probably alcohol and caffeine. Unfortunately I like all these things so apart from obviously suncream I am not willing to change my lifestyle.

I’m part of an online group which is aimed at perioral dermitis though after considers rosacea and other things. There is a regime that has worked for many and I’m finding relief from which is sulphur soap am and pm, dermol as a moisturiser (with a drop of tea tree in once a day if you can stand it) and 15% azelic acid (via an online pharmacy). Some have had great results - I haven’t added the acid in yet but have find the itching and discomfort reduced with the first two products.

Alifemoreordinary123 · 21/04/2025 21:10

I should also have said, I’ve minimised make up and have a sun screen for very sensitive skin that’s anti fungal etc.

@ouch321 are you using SPF50 every day? This is very important if you have rosacea (and for everyone else, too). The GP can prescribe azaelic acid which I think is stronger than the ones sold OTC. eg. The Ordinary is 10%, whereas Finacea from the GP is 15%.
Soolantra can take quite a while to work, so may be worth persevering if you've only used it for a short time.
Another visit to the GP may be a good idea just to rule out anything else.

Only when it's hot weather so I guess 3 months of the year.

Yes I should use up my tube of Soplantra just in case then perhaps I'll ask GP for the %you suggested.

I know you aren't wanting to cover it up, but this Eborian cc cream is great.

I just use this instead of foundation when I want to wear make up as it blends nicely to a more even tone. My redness is much more obvious than yours though.

Second this suggestion for a CC Cream.

I have redness like yours OP. Mine is rosacea, my skin was very bad about 5 or 6 years back but Soolantra cleared the worst of it so I no longer get pustules and scabs but the redness still flares up and down.

Some products with Cica in them help a bit as does avoiding triggers such as a lot of sunlight, alcohol or certain foods. I don't know all my triggers though and some of it is probably hormonal too.

I tried azelaic acid but it didn't do much for me. Years ago I had an expensive course of laser treatment which had minimal effect.

Now I just go with the flow and cover up with the Erborian cream or Dr Jart Cicapair if it's particularly red. My skin overall is in great shape currently but the redness is just something I have to manage.

Ah you have both... I already have the Cicapair which is decent, the small pot is lasting a long time.
Is the Eborian better or worse or much the same as the Dr Jart?

I was wondering whether to cough up for that as well...
Only I've heard it can go v. orange which would be bad on my dealthly pale (Mac 5-10) skin

I prefer Erborian as I use it like a skin tint and it's a more comfortable texture. I'm deathly pale too and had no problems with the colour.

I keep the Cicapair around for days where I have nothing on my skin and have a localised redness flare up - usually on my nose after after eating something that triggers it. Useful if I have a Teams call to jump on but I don't like Cicapair all over my face as it's a bit greasy.
