What is going on here??

Any ideas as to what's happening on my chin??

I've been to a private dermatologist who thought it was a type of hormonal acne. Prescribed some creams, but they've made no difference.
I really don't think it's acne as there's nothing in the bumps! They're just like raised plaques.cVd dry, usually.

Any ideas? I'm mid 40's by the way.

Could they be warts?

lovemycbf · 18/04/2025 19:13

They look like milia spots newborns get
made up of keratin I believe

Oh god I hope not!! 😬
Hoping dermatologist would know if they were?

Ok, sounds like a possibility.
Very confused as to why a dermatologist wouldn't have picked this up though! She wasn't cheap!

Also, any ideas how to treat?

Thank you!

I also think milia spots. I get them sometimes - serum and toner with glycolic acid before moisturiser sorts them out. Pixi brand works for me.

Noperope · 18/04/2025 19:29

Do you have more pics? Looks like it could be fungal. Milia are hard white spots that hurt if you put pressure on them.

ANewStartIThink · 18/04/2025 19:30

They don't hurt at all when pressed.

2 secs and I'll get more pics

Looks like fungal acne. Try cleaning your face with Head and shoulders shampoo and see if it clears it

That doesn't sound great...
Do you know how this would this come about?

I've had lots of milia and they've never hurt. I get them out with a needle..

ANewStartIThink · 18/04/2025 19:39

Sorry, struggling to get a better pic.

There is definitely nothing in them.

I've been using glycolic acid, but no change.

They're changeable too. Some days they're quite pronounced and raised, other days flatter.
Some days I wake up and they're really dry, other days not.

So I found this online - has this been considered: Spots that lack color, sometimes appearing flat and dry, can be caused by various skin conditions. Common culprits include eczema, psoriasis, or vitiligo. Eczema can manifest as dry, red, scaly patches. Psoriasis can cause dry, scaly, red plaques, and vitiligo leads to white patches due to a lack of pigment. Other possibilities include pityriasis alba, which causes pale, scaly patches, or even environmental factors like dry air or irritants.

In that case I'd lean towards eczema or psoriasis. Try keeping a food diary to see if there are any triggers that make it worse. Also go back to your dermatologist if the treatment is not working.

Is it only round your mouth? Could be peri-oral dermatitis if so. I had to get antibiotics to clear it, nothing else worked!

LadyLapsang · 18/04/2025 20:27

What is your skin care routine?

In the first picture, it looks like you have facial hair on your chin. Is this a new thing? Just wondered if it could be related to a hormone imbalance.

HundredMilesAnHour · 18/04/2025 20:31

It looks like it might be sebaceous hyperplasia. It does tend to start in middle age, particularly if you have oily skin.

Oh god, that's just what it's always been like! Didn't think I was that hairy tbh!

I use a fragrance free facial wash, cleanse, tone, use glycolic acid and hyaluronic moisturiser.

Did they all arrive simultaneously, or originate from a single point?

The reason why I'm asking is because it looks (to me), as if they are growing in lines if this is the case, then they must be radiating outwards, which indicates that they are infectious, rather than an autoimmune response or allergy.

I think warts could be a possibility.

CinnamonJellyBeans · 19/04/2025 07:56

Had another thought: Do you sleep on that side and dribble and use tooth whitening products?

Whitening toothpaste can irritate skin in the mouth (DD,2 has been complaining of sore mouth corners and tracked it down to Colgate max white). If toothpaste residue is going on your skin, it could cause a reaction.

BeretRaspberry · 19/04/2025 09:52

I was thinking seborrhoeic hyperplasia too, like a PP.

Wellhellotheremydear · 19/04/2025 10:11

I had something similar on my forehead many years ago. It was basically sebaceous cysts. If you're in the South there is a brilliant clinic in Oxfordshire to sort this kind of thing out, Chiltern Medical .

Allseeingallknowing · 19/04/2025 12:30

Tretinoin
Salicylic acid
I used to have these on my forehead, but they have disappeared. They look like pinhead warts.

That’s just peach fuzz!

Perioral dermatitis..? Early stage...?
I'm definitely no expert, just a suggestion.
