Ring sizing

Needachange02 · 18/04/2025 11:42

I’ve lost weight since I got engaged and I’m debating having my ring resized.
When my fingers are normal size, the ring is quite loose and I currently wear a ring snuggie. But when fingers are warm they do swell a bit and the ring is then ok fit wise.

Feel that if I had the ring made smaller it would be uncomfortable when hands are warm.

Any advice welcome please!

I think it’s better to have a ring slightly too big when you’re cold but that fits you when it’s warm than have a ring that feels too tight. I’ve had mine all made slightly larger and it’s much more comfortable.

Some things to consider:

Is the ring currently secure and comfortable on your finger? If it’s in danger of falling off on a normal day, consider getting it made smaller because you need to be confident that it won’t slip off.

Conversely, if pregnancy is potentially in your future, you may find that your fingers increase in size - through pregnancy, weight gain or swelling from all the nappy related handwashing. My ring was tighter after a baby even when I had returned to my previous weight, some friends can no longer wear their rings.

If you are right handed your right ring finger might be slightly larger than your left (because your right hand does more, presumably) and the ring would feel tighter. If this is the case for you, you could always “trial” how a slightly reduced ring would fit by wearing it on your right hand for a bit, which could help you decide.

No, it’s definitely not secure, hence me wearing a ring snuggie.

Definitely don’t need to think about pregnancy at mid fifties 😊 good point though.

I have tried putting it on my right hand but the knuckle is more prominent and it won’t go over it.

Im going to go to the jewellers tomorrow and ask to try the ring sizer in a size down.

I do agree, hate it when my rings feel uncomfortable. But I am worried about losing it.

Ask your jeweller for advice - resizing with some settings can affect the security of the stones

Thank you @70isaLimitNotaTarget, I will do.
