Is this hat suitable for kings garden party

I wonder if people out there can help I am so lucky to be invited as a guest to my sister to the Kings Garden Party. I am concerned that this hat is not formal enough and if it would stand out as being too informal, and would love to ask this wonderful community what they think. My dress is navy with large flowers and a navy chiffon wrap. Thank you all so much

It looks like a proper Easter bonnet Smile

I know nothing about posh garden parties, but agree with others that the flowers need to go. A navy ribbon would be much smarter.

ErrolTheDragon · 18/04/2025 10:59

I think it would lose its charm and the proportions would look wrong if you messed about with it and replaced the flowers with a ribbon.

Ignore people who havent been. Its a wonderful expetience and people watching and seeing all the different outfits is part of that experience. People with love to see that hat. I also used to work Next to the palace so also saw all people arriving for garden parties.

???

Quite…

AdaColeman · 18/04/2025 11:25

@MCari Don't wear spiky heels, wear comfortable shoes that won't sink into the grass, you will spend most of the time standing around.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 18/04/2025 11:31

The flowers make it look as if it’s been hanging in a farmhouse kitchen for years.

OP - sorry, but I really, genuinely believe that the flowers need binning. I’m surprised that anybody would think they’re okay.

Or can you use this as an excuse to buy a new hat?

Rocknrollstar · 18/04/2025 11:38

Powderblue1 · 18/04/2025 08:00

I think it’s lovely and perfect for an English tea party vibe.

I’m going too but my dress is busy so I’ve decided against a hat at all. I did actually wear my dress to a friends wedding years ago with a fascinator and when I look at the pics I always think it would have looked better without.

I think you need to reconsider. Virtually everyone wears a hat.

LittleBigHead · 18/04/2025 11:51

It's a bit too informal for my taste, but far far better than the vulgar & naff fascinators that people see4m to think are appropriate.

It's very sweet, but not smart or stylish, if you see what I mean about the difference. But it depends on the style of your dress, really.

crumblingschools · 18/04/2025 12:55

@Rocknrollstar dress code specifically states hats are optional

PinataHeeHaw · 18/04/2025 13:17

Do the men wear hats too?

Delphigirl · 18/04/2025 13:20

I think the shape and woven ribbon are quite chic. I would lose the fake flowers entirely and let your dress provide the flowers. Simpler is smarter in this case I think.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 18/04/2025 14:43

I don’t like the hat at all and am surprised at so many positive responses. It’s a sweet hat but looks like something that’d be worn to keep the sun off your face on your allotment. The flowers look past their best. Changing them for a ribbon band is a good idea but I’d be rethinking the hat completely. We need to see the dress you’re planning to wear to make suggestions.

Powderblue1 · 18/04/2025 17:07

@RocknrollstarI'm ok. I like to do my own thing. And too much frill doesn’t suit me

alldressedupinblue · 18/04/2025 17:11

I’ve been to a few BP Garden Parties. Unless you are VERY lucky, you don’t get to meet any Royals: I’d say about 2% are picked out for a chat. Therefore, dress to please yourself in that formal context. Think what you’ll look like in the photos you show your friends and family. I love love love your hat, and think you’ll look beautiful.

Toddlerteaplease · 18/04/2025 17:14

My mum who loathes hats wore a navy fascinator.

mathanxiety · 18/04/2025 17:14

I think the yellow flowers and green foliage should be removed and a navy ribbon substituted. The floral bits make it look as if the hat and dress don't belong together.

mathanxiety · 18/04/2025 17:16

ErrolTheDragon · 18/04/2025 09:22

Flowers on a hat are entirely appropriate for a garden party, surely?

Not those flowers though.

MCari · 18/04/2025 19:45

Thank you all so much for your comments,

@MCari - was your garden party today? There were lots of lovely hats leaving London tonight!

StarTwirl · 07/05/2025 20:45

It’s an adorable hat you’ll look lovely

KingOfPoundbury · 07/05/2025 20:54

Oh yes, that will be fine.

To be honest (and one is) one probably would not notice what hat you had on, or even if one was not wearing one.

One usually quaffs a bouteille of the old Cherry Brandy before 'kick orf' so to speak.
My Pa taught me this, gets one through the afternoon, if you know what one means! Gaffaw, gaffaw.
