Hi,
Like everyone else, I've seen the promo's for Merwave etc. I do have wavy hair and at the moment just apply a light oil when i've washed it, and a light oil to the ends when i've dried it to take some of the frizz out. It get's a good cut every 12 weeks without fail. I've got some of that creme in the orange bottle but what else can you guys recommend? I'm very much a wash, dry and go kind of person. I'm 51 and my hair is my best feature but i'd like to have these waves looking a tad better rather than fizz ball.

I use a spray called Curl Wow Shook mix and fix bundling spray by ColorWowHair. I bought it at the hairdresser and it was outrageously expensive but a little goes a long way. You have to shake the bottle well because it has some kind of oil in it but it’s light and helps with frizz. It defines the waves well and does not create a crunchy cast so hair feels soft.

However sometimes I like to make a cast, so for that I use BedHead Foxy Curls by TIGI followed by Umberto Gianni pink gel and scrunch out the cast. I have also had some success with The Curl Company curl cream with Moringa oil. I don’t get good results with very heavy or thick products. There’s a lot of trial and error involved, I think.

I would love someone to come and tell us whether Merwave or Only Curls are worth the money.

I don’t sleep on a silk pillowcase or put my hair into a satin lined bonnet/wrap overnight but maybe that would help with frizz.

Also I take it you’re using a diffuser if you’re drying it ? I leave mine to air dry.

Hi, I've been experimenting with the Umberto Gianni (sp) pink gel, applying to wet hair then using a wide tooth comb to comb through, then scrunching. Not combing looked a clumpy mess. I sleep in a satin bonnet and can get a second day out of it if I wet it. Haven't tried a third. My hair is starting to look a bit dry so I need to add something else I think. I bought the only curls starter kit, and used it as per instructions, not combing. It was OK but I need to play about with it, maybe using my wide tooth comb. Or trying the curl creme with the UG pink gel. Really interested to hear what others have tried! I am finding my hair is much harder to straighten now if I need to revert to my default do 😂

My hair is on the curlier side of wavy, but very fine so doesn’t do well with products heavy in Shea butter etc.

I use either Flora & Curl gel or the Olaplex gel (whatever the number is for curls). I brush it through with a curl defining brush, scrunch and either air dry or diffuse until not quite dry. I scrunch out the cast with a couple of drops of the olaplex bonding oil. I can now go 3-4 days without washing.

This sounds like my hair

I have very thick wavy hair. I have a collection of different shampoo & conditioners and various products to try to get my hair to have a defined wave - not just frizzy mess.

I’ve just caved and got the full Merwave set and my hair honestly looks the best it looks in years! Total convert! It is quite expensive but I’ve wasted so much money trying different products that it feels worth it.

I don’t sleep in a silk bonnet but off to research them. Interested to know if people find they make much difference?

I’m not the OP but I’m loving all these useful replies ! Seems like some good experiences with the curly/wavy products.

@BabybabybabyOooh thanks for that, I might treat myself to a Merwave starter set as my hair is also wavy and fairly thick. My daughter sleeps in a silk bonnet and claims it helps the waves to last, with less frizz, so they continue to look good for the next day or two.
